I believe it is about 1600 acres along the ridges that have finally been declared a National Historic Site.? It was nominated a while back and it was a struggle.? The WV state government had to get behind the nomination before it could go forward and it took them a while to make that decision.? My Grandfather was there on Blair-he was blacklisted a long time for working with the union.? It's about time! Thanks Joel;My late wife Norma Jean was born in Feb 8, 1930. Someone did an error on the reporting in the birth records. About the Blair Mountain entry I posted : the battle extended from Blair mountain, to Crooked Creek, and took in many acres. We were hoping to get all this area encompassed in the new Park. The coal operators only wanted one acre to be used, on top of Blair mt. I now believe we will get what we asked for originally. One thing is sure: no mining or other tresspassing will be allowed in any Federal Park system Cousin Shelby ************** A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. Shelby, That is great! I discovered your marriage record at the West Virginia Vital Records Search site. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=11667289&Type=Marriage Is 8 Feb 1927 Norma Jean's birth date or was it later? I had 1930. It appears women needed parental consent if they were not 21. The West Virginia Vital Records Search site has added Boone County marriages and births. Hello Shelby - How many acres were set aside for the park? Or will there be a monument? This is good news. Shelby, I am tickled to death. Living here in WV I am sick and tired of the coal operators having their way with everything around here. Massey Coal lost their partner in crime when Spike Maynard lost his bid for re-election. Sorry, but my feet are getting tired and so I must step down from my soap box and rest them. I would like information anyone would have on cemeteries in Stolling's WVA And if possible a link to them.My sister is buried according to her death certificate in Stolling's,I have heard also that she was buried at Foley cemetery. Her name is Gladys Shirline Browning and she passed away on 6-24-1944,was buried (According to her death certificate)in Stolling's on 6-26-1944. I want to find her grave as she passed before I was born.I also heard the state wants to move a cemetery around there to make room for a highway. Any information someone would provide would be greatly appreciated. An article was ran in the Logan Banner about three weeks ago about relocating a cemetery, but I cannot pull it up online.I would also appreciate any idea's the list have about locating her unmarked grave. I live in New Jersey and I plan a trip back home in three weeks and would love to get her grave a stone or if that cemetery is being moved than getting her moved to the family cemetery at cabway lingo. Please contact me: 01browning@comcast.net
Hi List- I've hit a brick wall concerning a murder in my family that took place back in 1981 and am wondering if anyone on this list might be able to help.? My grandfather's baby sister was named Pearl Spangler.? She married a John Ferguson, son of Thomas Ferguson and a Minerva or Merisba Perry.? Three children were born of the marriage, a Balford Lee Ferguson, a Joyce Ferguson and the youngest was named Thomas "Tommy" Ferguson.? Apparently Tommy (who suffered from Parkinson's Disease as did his father John), got into some kind of altercation and according to family lore, bludgeoned his father to death with a black cast iron skillet.? For the murder, Tommy was supposedly convicted and sentenced to prison where again, family lore says, he died. My grand aunt Pearl Spangler was born and raised in Whitman Creek and after marrying John Ferguson, lived several different places, including Switzer, Whitman Creek and even in Jacksonville, Florida. Anything anyone can remember regarding this, would be greatly appreciated. C. Robin Crush

Hi List- I just ran across a pic of the Ulysses McClung family taken in 1910 and posted on www.wvpics.com.? Thought Anita McClung might either already know about it or might be interested in seeing it.? That sure is one fine looking family. C. Robin Crush
Yes, thank you. I am not related to this McClung line (that I know of) but I have been working for several years trying to pinpoint who Ulysess' grandfathe is.
