Anita; Blair Mountain has been added to the National Register Of Historic Places. This will be the first step in what we hope will be a National Park. It was added recently as it was cited as being near extinction by the NRHP. Something had to be done quickly, as Massey was determined to get the remaining coal in the park place. Shelby, Yes, it does. If Blair Mountian one place that hunters like to hunt, then that will cease if and when the National Park get ahold on it. I live in an area where between the National Park Service and white water rafting, many people have lost their hunting grounds and many have lost their homes. Don't get me wrong, the National Park Service has done wonders for this area, but so much of the land is now restricted and prohibited. And there are very few locals who are employeed by the park service and the ones who are, are men on the maintance crew. Shelby, I have a question. Was it place on the National Historical Register or did the National Park Service acquire it?  I keep hearing about a park from everyone on the list and there was one mention about you can't mine (or something in a National Park). If it was acquired by the National Park Service then, yes it will be federal land. However, if it was added to the National Historical Register I believe that might be different. Here in Fayette County, we have houses, etc on the National Historical Register but they are not a part of the National Park Service as they are privately owned. The owners have certain guide lines that they must follow when it comes to renovating, etc. Just curious. It was listed on birth records, listed as the area where a cemetery is on death records, and also listed as a place where someone was married at.
