This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZCC.2ACE/1344 Message Board Post: I have been researching the families in the McCorkle area where my mother's family lived for generations. One person who really interests me is Strauder Holstein. He married Nancy Smith, a sister of my mother's grandmother, Serepty Smith McCormick. All of these folks are buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle. (Having died in the 1940s and 1950s) Does anyone know if Strauder Holstein and his family also went by the surname "Pauley" at times? Other researchers give his mother as Susan Holstein, father unknown. Some note that Susan married George Pauley who then became Strauder's stepfather. When Strauder's wife Nancy died, their son gave her name as Nancy Holstein Pauley. I have no record of a second marriage for her. This is what got me curious. Also, she is buried beside Strauder and they share a headstone. He died first. I can find no death record for Strauder Holstein, but there is one for Strauder Pauley, of McCorkle who was the husband of Nancy Pauley and the son of George Pauley and Julie Holstein. The informant's name looks like it could be Quiller Pauley, but the first few letters of the first name are unclear. Strauder and Nancy Holstein had a son named Quiller. I have never seen the name Strauder Pauley on any other records and McCorkle isn't a really big place. This is all probably as "clear as mud" but maybe someone out there knows what I'm talking about and can clear things up. By the way, I saw th! is same sort of thing on my Dad's side of the family and the interchangeable names created a wall I thought I'd never get through. I finally did after about ten years of looking right at the "people" , well records, I had been looking for all along! Also, Strauder's name can appear as "Stawder, Strader, " etc. Hope so, Lora
