John "Blue" Fugate, born Tuesday, 18 May 1832 in Perry Co., KY, died Monday, 14 August 1916 in Lincoln County, West Virginia (son of Zachariah Fugate and Mary "Polly" Smith). John volunteered for duty in the Confederate Army on October 1, 1862 at Whitesburg, KY, serving with Company C, 13th Kentucky Cavalry as a Private. The Compiled Service Records list him as deserting in the latter part of 1863. Has anyone proof that he ever returned for service in the Confederacy after this date, as there is an apparent interest in ordering a Veteran’s Administration tombstone for him, once his grave is located in West Virginia?
