Born in Priestley, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher Mitchell Priestley and Mary Frances Smith Priestley. She graduated from Alderson Academy and the Charleston College of Commerce. Active in church and community affairs for over 50 years, she was a member of Hamlin Baptist Church, past superinten- dent of the Sunday School, past director of the church choir, past teacher of the Friendship Sunday School Class, and past president of the Guyandotte Baptist Women's Association. She was a charter member and past president of the Hamlin Women's Club, member of the Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club, past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hamlin Chapter, past director of the Lincoln County Heart Association Drive, and member of the Charleston Rose Society. Surviving: husband, Andrew J., "Doc" Belcher; one daughter, Mary B. Tate of Hamlin; three grandchildren: Mary Paula Tate, Barrenquilla, Colombia, South America; Timothy S. Tate and Melanie L. Adkins, both of Hamlin.
