It has been my experience that many people researching their ancestors expect and demand that others do their work for them. But as I see it, it is our obligation to do for ourselves and, if we should be lucky enough to come in contact with others researching the same families, we can only hope that they would be willing to share their information. Many genealogical societies are fortunate to have unlimited funds and resources thus enabling them to build a formidable library of reference, but those are generally in urban areas. Lincoln County is certainly not is such a class. We have neither the funds nor the technology to research, post and disburse all that we would wish. As far as getting no immediate gratification for postings on this message board, a seasoned researcher knows that often it can take weeks, ! months or years to get answers. This is not a business. We are but a handful of locals with no money, few computers and very little help trying to scrape up what we can for a lot of people who expect to get something for nothing. I say "something for nothing" because rarely do these inquiring people ever reciprocate with any information of their own. It would be wonderful if we could have a full time, fully functioning and funded organization with all of the equipment and technology it would take to run smoothly and efficiently. Until that time, those of you with a heart and a bit of understanding, perhaps will cut us some slack and remember what your grandmother always told you, "You get more with honey than with vinegar".
