Descendants of 'Irish' John Alford are having a reunion in West Virginia. The reunion will be held at the Garretts Bend Community Center in Lincoln County, West Virginia, Saturday, August 11, 2001. The family was originally from Ireland and settled in the Rockingham and Augusta County areas of Virginia. Some descendants are still located in Virginia, while various branches settled in Monroe and Cabell/Lincoln County areas of West Virginia. Other descendants moved on to Missouri and from there to Oklahoma, Texas, California and Oregon. I have also been in touch with descendants who are in the Carolinas. Interested persons can contact me via email for addiitional details. Almost without exception, Alfords in Lincoln, Kanawha and Putnam Counties are related and have common ancestry back to George Alford and his wife Mary Byrnside. George was a son of 'Irish' John Alford. More information can be found at: http://home.columbus.rr.com/alfords/ Norris Alford
