    3. Not to disagree with anyone, because I am not researching these lines at all, but I do know that Sutherland is definitely an Indian name, specifically Cherokee. Other variations of Sutherland are Suthers, and Southers. So Margaret very well could have had Indian blood. Kiser also is an Indian/Melungeon name. Many early French traders married Indian women to assure good trading relations with the area tribes. She was the sister of our gg-grandpa. Do you know who your Martha McClellan's parents were? There were many McClellan's back in Wise/Scott Co Va area. Quite a few Lawson & McClellan families went to WV. Supposedly because of the coalmines. I have a bunch of the McClellans in our tree also. By the way, the name was spelled with a "D" on the end in the early years at least all those I find up to at least 1860 had the "D". Andrew, born 1748 who is the forefather of probably all the Scott/Wise Co McClellans is spelled McClelland in his will.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZCC.2ACE/414.1.1 Message Board Post: I too have not had a response from Tootsie Cupp. I sent several messages but nothing so far. I realize your message is quite dated but will try to contact you anyway. As I understand it, Andrew and Grover Cleveland "Cleveland " Adkins were half-brothers but not able to substantiate it. Paris Adkins was married to "Emma Johnson" and then to Minerva Lucas. I have a notation that Emma's brother was Willie Lucas but again, not substantiated. Anyway, my records show that Paris and Minerva Lucas had two children. That is, Malcolm Everett Adkins and Ansel Adkins. Malcolm (called Mac) married Ella Marinda Wilson, daughter of John Dexter Wilson. Mac was my grandfather. Grover Cleveland married Lauretta Wilson. Ella M. and Lauretta were sisters. Someone on the internet posted that their children were: Andrew Lucas and MacK Lucas but that doesn't hardly seem possible since the father was Paris Adkins. If this gets to you, please respond via regular e-mail and I hope this does not confuse you too much.

Surnames: Messer, McCormick, Miller Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZCC.2ACE/1069 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on Adaline Messer who lived in Lincoln County in a place called "Bulyer" or maybe "Bulger". She was living there in 1923 and was 78 years old at the time, making her born about 1845. I do not know if Messer was a married name or not. At one time she was married to Jordan McCormick, Jr. They married about 1874 or 1875, but did not live together long. He then returned to his first wife Ruth Miller and lived with her until 1881, not divorcing Adaline until about then, two children were born to Jordan and Ruth during this unusual period in their lives.(They had other children born during their first marriage and one more born during their second). All of which is sworn to on various affidavits. He then remarried Ruth. I am curious about Adadline and would like to know who she was and if any children were born of this relationship. What information I have comes from pension applications. Jordan was a Civil War Veteran. Adaline had to swear an affidavi! t that she and Jordan were legally divorced since all records of the divorce and Jordan's 2nd marriage to Ruth were destroyed when the Lincoln County Court House burned in 1909.

I do not know whom you would contact to get inside the church. I don't even know who their preacher is now. I saw Billy Carroll's house burn when I was a child, it was struck by lightening and my grandfather John Parsons went to tell him that his house was on fire. As near as I can remember he was sitting on his porch singing gospel songs and did not know that his house was on fire. I hope you can find the information you are looking for. I am trying to trace the family of John and Viola Holley Parsons, am pretty well at a dead end tho. Jennie Burgess
