It was called Newt's stop then dropped to Midkiff. I can't remember where I read this, but it sounds like a good explaination.

WV. Id thought pass it along to the list so that people who have loved ones buried there would know the condition of it etc. Has this cemetery every been written down like the rest of them have been for Lincoln Co. WV? patsy My younger sister, Linda, who lives at Alum Creek, just called to tell me she went to the Griffith Cemetery this afternoon by herself. A neighbor told her that there had been a lot of vandalism up there recently. She said that several headstones were on the ground. She found one stone on the ground that had info about the children of A. G. and Minerva J. Grass on it. I think she said that one child was W.H., a son, d. Feb 23, 1891, at 5 years, 5 month and 27 days. The other child was L.V., a daughter, d. Mar. 21, 1891, age 9 months and 8 days. She had a time turning the stone over and on the front she found: Minerva J. Grass, wife of A.G., she died Mar. 17, 1891, at 28 years, 11months and 16 days. I think I copied it down correctly but Linda is sending me her copy of the notes she made to make sure I have it right. All three of them died in 1891 so there must have been an epidemic that year. Do you know anything about an epidemic that year? Linda didn't find any Egnor's but she said most of the stones were too heavy for her to turn over by herself. She found these names: Steeds, Oxley, Oney, Pauley, McCallister, Vickers, Starkey Hager s/o Matt and Lucy Spurlock, Holstein, Rex Hager, s/o A. Hager, and C.T. and Goldie Lawrence. She wants to go back with somebody to kill the ivy that has overgrown the graves and to right the stones.

This is a copy of a message received on the Lorain OH list. This message is from a dear friend who has helped me greatly in learning the art of genealogy. She has done many cemetery projects in our area. I thought that some of you might enjoy hearing how other people spend their holidays. Hope you find something special in their message. Sorry if it came through more than once. Have tried sending it a few times with no luck. Jane Hoholski Hello Fellow Researchers, Since tomorrow is Christmas Eve, our heartfelt seasons greetings go to all of you. Our lives have been greatly enriched by the many genealogical contacts with online researchers. Sadly, some former lorgen subscribers can no longer sit at their PC to communicate with us. They are missed! Remember when writing your family history, include all those former & current family traditions/customs that your family ever took part in. Even if you have chosen not to carry on with those same traditions or created new ones for your immediate family. They do change & or expand as marriages between different faiths, cultures & races occur. As retirees, we married 10 short years ago & decided to create meaningful holiday customs of our own. Some I want to share with you........ #1 only grandchildren on both sides of the family, college age or younger, receive big purchased gifts. (We decided on this so that we could better afford #2 & #4 below.) #2 we have clothes, practical items, food & money delivered anonymously to a needy family. #3 we help the Salvation Army at holiday time with bell-ringing or serving holiday meals to the homeless. BTW, did you ever imagine 10 yrs ago that you could donate to the SA online http://www1.salvationarmy.org/ #4 we increased Christmas donations to two of our many favorite charities each year, sometimes a new one. #5 we write a letter to each other about the special moments we have created together the past year. #6 we spend an evening remembering, talking & missing special friends & family members that we've lost or who became so seriously ill, that their lives have changed forever. #7 spend some extra afternoons visiting shut-ins. Of course we still treasure all our past memories. Stay well and let's all get better organized with our genealogy work! Elmer & Nancy Meyers

I would like to go further back than this but they seem to be ONE of my brick walls. Albert Jackson Adkins did have a brother named Richard Adkins. The Lester woman and Pansy Briggs look to be of strong Native American ancestory and also maybe some Melungeon ancestory, thats about all I know on this family... I wonder if they were related to some of the Adkins that your researching?? Denise

DO you have anything about a William Adkins who was married to a lady name Sarah They had two children a daughter Mahala who married Samuel Smith (on the 1860 Cabell and 1870 Lincoln Census). Also they had a son named Thomas T Adkins who was born in 1810 and I am told he marriied a girl named Christinia and they are on the 1850 Census of Cabell I am told she was a Holton then she apparently died and in 1860 he is married to a lady name Lisare and she was a HOLTON and she died before 1870 and he married Belinda/Melinda HOLTON Pierson. Thomas T was a son of William Adkins and Sarah and a brother to Mahala. I am told Sarah died and William Adkins married again and had a son named Timothy T who I believe married a Rachel Horton. So as you can see I am extremely interested. I tried to email the lady with the AOL address and the mail would not go through. If someone can shed some light on the above please email me? Thanks Pat

I have a Rebecca Holley that married a William Holton in 1819 in Cabell County, WV (Virginia). Actually, their names were spelled Rebekah Halley to William Hatten. I am a descendent of this couple. That I know of, I can only find that they had one son, Allen Holton, born about 1815/1820. Anyway, Rebecca Holley, Fanny Holley and Nancy Holley (sisters??) all married into the Holton family. Perhaps this Holley family is the one you are looking for?? They may have had a brother who had a daughter named Rebecca. Much more research needs to be done which I am in the process of doing. Three of the Holton girls married Adkins! They were Wayne, Bartlett and Parker. This Holton family is found in the 1850/1860/1870 census of Lincoln, Boone and Cabell Counties, WV. And, to further compound the problem, this Holton family changed their name to Smith!!

Also am looking for births for a couple of men born in 1900s about 1911 and maybe 1913. They were sons of Bertha Duty and L E Vaughan/Vaughn. Bertha and L E were married in Logan county in Sept of 1910 but I think they lived in Harts Creek after they were married. Anyone have information about them or their boys? Thanks so much PS anyone have a listing of births from the 1900s through 1920? Pat in FLorida
