Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZCC.2ACE/1142.2 Message Board Post: Hi Valerie, I am sure that you have written your article by now, but just incase you may still be researching, I suggest you go to the Special Collections Section at the Morrow Library at Marshall Uninversity in Huntington, WV. There is a genealogy section on Lincoln Co., that contains oral biographical histories from back in the early 1900's......where interviews by the older generation give important clues as to the names of some of the original towns in the area. For instance, in Wayne Co., WV, the town of Wayne now, was once known as 'Trout's Hill' back in the 1860's..... There was a small community across from Rt. 10 in the Ranger area known as Gill, WV that was once a bustling little community........There was Lattin, WV, further down the road toward Leet, WV. How about, Fourteen, WV, on Rt. 37? Most towns centered around sawmills in the area, where workers could live close by, as logging was a big business in the 1880's - 1930's. Goodluck, Sandi

Morris, but I thought I would mention it to you......This John H. Morris shows up as the person who married my great grandfather, Ulysses Grant Nelson to Lucinda Elizabeth Price Wallace on June 20, 1912 in Lattin, Lincoln Co., WV. I believe Lattin was located in or near the Big Ugly Creek area, or between Gill and Leet.....Lattin and Gill are virtually nonexistant now. They were little boomtowns beside the railroad tracks that coincided with the Guyandotte River......Logging and timbermen for the sawmills in this area was big business in the 1910's...... Hope this helps.... Sandi

Surnames: Nelson, Maynard, Queen, Lucas, Vance, Fry Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZCC.2ACE/1222.1 Message Board Post: Hi, I was at a family reunion back in June, and we were discussing the PRICE surname as one of our ancestors. I was told that there was an old community called 'Price' back in the early 1900's located off of Rt 10 in the Midkiff, Lincoln Co., WV area on the road called Nine Mile Creek Road. There is supposed to be a Price family cemetery there. The Nine Mile Creek Rd. has a fork in it, and if you come to it from the direction of Rt. 10, you would probably stay on the right fork of the road, as this takes you south again. According to the county map of Lincoln Co. that I have that shows some cemetery listings, if you stay on the right fork of Nine Mile Cree Rd, you will come to another fork, but do not turn left. Keep going on the main road.....within a mile or so you should encounter a right hand turn, shown as being (if there is a sign) Nine Mile Creek and you will not make this right hand turn....continue straight ahead toward what is labeled as 'Spears Fork Rd.' There are listings of two cemeteries on the left hand sides of this road, but they are more than likely up on the hillside......You may desire to stop and ask any of the older locals about their knowledge of these cemeteries.....The road for Spears Fork is listed as an 'umimproved road' meanin! g the State Hwy Division doesn't do any upkeep on it, so it may be rutted, if it isn't gated off to traffic. A four wheel drive is suggested......I have been on many of these backroads, and most are kept in decent shape, but with all the rain we have had as of recently, one can never be sure of the dirt road conditions. Like I said, if you plan a trip through the area, stop and ask the older locals, and tell them whom/what, you are looking for....Most will go out of their way to point you in the right direction, or atleast give you the name of someone who might be able to help you...... Goodluck, Sandi
