Thanks for the responses. I'm able to access the site again. I learned this evening that the site had some computer issues but all is working fine now. Lora
Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble accessing ancestry's web site results today (Feb. 8). The home page works fine for entering the info on who your looking for but the results has me locked out of everything. My subscription is current so that's not the problem. I can't even look at my account info to see if it says anything. I managed to send an e-mail but don't know how long they take to respond. Anyone have a phone number for customer support? thanks Lora

Smith. I also saw in the census that Strawder Smith and Strawder Holstein lived next door to each other. I think it was the 1920 census. I not real sure and don't quote me on this, but I think Strawder Smith mother Millie married a Joel D. Midkiff. I seem to recall seeing that somewhere. also Strawder Smith married a woman name Mary Margie Brogan daughter of John Oliver Brogan and Letha Jane Pauley. My E-mail address is terrismith@adelphia.net

Another researcher shared the www.WVCulture.org site with me. They have death records from about 1917-1955 for all counties and earlier years some counties. I am very interested in the folks buried at Pine Grove as I have about five generations of my kin buried there, including my father. But it is my mother's family that is buried there. When I started researching the other folks, I discovered that many are either related or connected to one another. Very few people are there without some other family buried nearby. That is why I needed help with your Genevie, I had no other Greens and didn't know who her parents were. I also have a few Gibsons I found while researching, Arizona and Wyatt (nicknamed Hoot) They were siblings. Hoot/Wyatt married Lillian Stotler and Lillian's sister, Blanche married my Dad's great uncle, Ezra Pauley. Are these Gibsons familiar to you? Keep in touch and have a safe trip. Lora

I have asked my mother and other relatives from the family to help me with piecing all of this together, I have Maxine Gibson's bible and I am told that Townsel or Touncil's name is spelled in there. I am currently on travel in California but intend to dig into it when I get home, thank you so much for sharing the information with me it really means a lot more than you will ever know. My father and all of the relatives that I am aware of from Mcorkle are deceased and it really does limit the information gathering although people like yourselves contain a wealth of information. Thank you again and I will check on the spelling when I get back. sincerely, Tyge Gibson

I was able to locate Genevie's death record on-line and here is what I find out. You are right, she died October 4, 1943, in McCorkle, of heart failure. She was born May 17, 1872, D/O Allen H. Pauley and Vienna Loftis. (A family I had done a little research on) Witness to her death was: Maxine Gibson Personal Information was provided by: Zona McCormick. I believe this Zona McCormick was the wife of James Henry McCormick and daughter of Webster D. Hill and Laura Grass. Zona was born January 4, 1892 and died July 1, 1979, buried at Midkiff Cemetery. I am the daughter of a Pauley/McCormick marriage, so those names always catch my attention. Thanks again, Lora
I'm happy to say that I will be able to help you with this Lora. My Mom's sister was Dorothy "Dot" Black and she was married to RayGene Black, and ran the store at Myra until his death in 1985. She then took over until we lost her to cancer this past September 15. She was also the post master. :) I will ask my mom who the preacher was. She knows this family very well, and if she doesn't know, my cousin Myra Sue will. I will write when I find out. Cindy
I have a book on GILES County marriages (remember, a lot of the area was Giles County before it was Boone) and there are Nida, Niday and Von Niday, all the same family. I will look it up as soon as I get back to Apopka from St. Petersburg. Sharon Lee Gates
I am wondering if anyone has cemetery transcripts for 1) Goldsbury Cemetery at Sias, WV; 2) Fairview Memory Gardens at Hamlin, WV; 3) the cemetery at Parsoner, WV (may be called the Cooper Cemetery, not sure); and 4) Black's Cemetery, located either on Sand Lick Road at Myra, WV or Trace Creek Road near Hamlin, WV, depending on which way you go. Thanks in advance for any help! Thank you, Cindy (Adkins) Carper
Does anyone remember a Tom Brown or Browning who owned a store and beer joint on top of a hill near Hamlin. He had a bear who was chained up by the neck and they used to give it bottles of beer. I remember that as a child back in the middle 1940s and early 1950s. Would like to get a picture of the bear if anyone has it. Would be glad to pay for any expense incurred. I am still trying to find out some information about the Lincoln Theater that was in Hamlin and the Guyan Drive In Movie that was in West Hamlin. I thought maybe new people have subscribed to this list and maybe some of you might have some information. Would love a picture of the outside of either. I have checked my husband's old yearbooks for an ad but there is not one in the 1954-57 year book for Hamlin High School. Could maybe some of you check your old yearbooks and see if there is an advertisement for either of these places. If you have something and could scan a picture of it for me or if you have to make a copy will be most happy to pay for postage and also for the copying. Thanks so much Have a wonderful day pat in florida
