Is there anyone on this list descended from Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin and knows where and when they died? A grandson named Silas came to Lincoln County and lived in Sheridan District. This younger Silas was born in Wayne County in 1876 son of Easton and Julia (Horn) Fannin. He married 1st in Wayne County Sarah (Queen) Caldwell. She was previously married to William Caldwell and had sons, Eustice and Willie. Silas and Sarah had a daughter named "Cousie" or "Cuzzie." She married in 1919 Cecil Simpkins. They had children: Tilmon, Kemper, and Redith Simpkisn. She died in 1929. I’m particularly interested in finding out where the older Silas Fannin (who was born about 1822) died. He was shot in McCorkle on the evening of May 28. I also have that he and his wife had a daughter named Goldie Barbara, born November 21, 1915, in McCorkle. (Lincoln County Birth Records) I have that his wife Gillie was the daughter of E.E. Kidd and Sarah Elizabeth Pauley. I am descended from Millie's brother Jordan Smith, Jr. Millie is something of mystery to me. She had 6 children born and living according to one of the censuses, maybe 1910. I know she had Strawder, Laurette/Laura, Ezra Isom or Isom Ezra, Monroe, and maybe a George born in 1876 who is on the 1880 census with her and Strawder in her mother's household. I know nothing else about George. I couldn't figure out who the 6th child was, but had seen the marker at Pine Grove for Osten Smith who died in 1913. I am very curious about him. Do you know more details about him? Maybe he was off working on someone's farm as a live-in helper when the census was taken in 1900? In 1900 after the census was taken, (in which Millie is "widowed" and Laura, Monoe and Isom are the only children at home), Laura married John Armstrong and Millie married John A. Pauley. (You can tell this because in the 1910 census both couples have been married 10 years.) She was his 3rd or 4th wife. He was born in 1840. After Millie died in June of 1919, he married a young widow, named Louvenia. She was 50 years younger than him. Also, I have different fathers for some of Millie's kids. (Taken from their death records) Men named Anderson Barker, Reese Woods, and Joel Midkiff. Joel was married to Docia Graley. I don't know if Millie was married to all of these men or any of them. Was she actually married to Mr. Holly? Do you know wehn she was married to Mr. Armstrong? On the 1910 census she and John both put down that this was their 2nd marriage, but he was married more than that and on the 1880 and 1900 census she was using her maiden name, Smith, and all of her children went by Smith. If there was ever a Mr. Smith, I haven't found him, but with all of those early Lincoln County records destroyed in 1909, who knows? Also, sometimes people gave what they thought was correct information on death records, but their memories weren't as good as they thought. (Somethings never change! I can't remember much myself.) Well, I probably asked more qeustions than I answered, but I have been interested in this family for years. My Uncle married one of Monroe Smith's grand daughters and we are also related to Monroe through his mother Millie. As for Isom, his little family was tragic. I have that he lived March 4, 1893 to May 5, 1935. His wife, Rosa Adkins, Sept. 14, 1897 to November 10, 1928. Two little daughters, Girtie May, b. January 28, 1928, d. February 5, 1928, all died in Boone County. Nellie, b. Oct. 17, 1923, married Chris H. Dunlap and died at age 17 after a miscarriage, on December 17, 1940, in McCorkle. His actual name was William Hamilton McCallister. When you view his marriage record to Elizabeth Zirkles it lists his birthplace as Benton Co., Ark. everywhere else it says VA or WV. His mother was in Ark. for a few years with her husband. "Squire Bill" and his wife Elizabeth are buried on Laurel Fork of Joe's Creek. I'd like more information about all of his children. Two brothers; Charles and Allen Toney of Tyler Mountain, three sisters; Mrs. Mabel Pauley of So. Charleston, Mrs. Frank Pauley of Charleston, & Mrs. Una Rhodes of Chelyan. 12 grandchildren." If you are not from here it may help you to know that Tyler Mountain is in the Cross Lanes area, not too far from Charleston, also, Spring Hill Cemetery is an enormous cemetery visable from I-64, near the State Capitol, in Charleston. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. He is survived by his widow, four daughters; Helen, Una, Flossie and Mary and two sons, Lawrence and Henry Graley, Jr." (According to his death record, Henry died of tuberculosis, Nov. 15, 1928, lived in Banner Hollow, Charleston, which may have been near Vandalia. He was the husband of Rena and the son of Green Graley. Year of birth only was given, as 1899, but the 1900 census gives his birth year as 1893, he was with his father Green and a couple siblings. Also, there is a death record for a George Graley, b. June 26, 1876 in Lincoln Co., d. April 30, 1936, Sod, Lincoln Co., s/o Green Graley and Peggie Smith, informant, Strawder Smith of McCorkle. This George was buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle. I have many relatives buried there. Also this Green Graley appears to have been married, divorced and widowed numerous times. ( I know who Carl Sr., belongs to, he is the son of William Sampson Graley and Emma Beach, grandson of Thomas and Almeda Graley. CARL William Graley 7/28/1905---1/24/1981 I think this CARL Graley married Effie Jane Hughes, I think they also had a son named CARL. Her obit lists the following children: Sons; Buck, Hassell, and Kay. 6 dau; Maxine, Delores, Doris, Rhonda, Patty and Sharon. (Hassell was CARL Hassell 12/31/1937---9/1969.) This Carl and Effie are buried in Anderson Cem., McCorkle. CARL Lawrence Graley, born 1942, son of Cecil. So anyone with any information on ANY Carl Graleys, please let me know who is who. For those of you who are searching the WV Counties, if you haven't already accessed the WV Archives deaths, you will find a wealth of information. The address is: _http://www.wvculture.org/rvv/_ (http://www.wvculture.org/rvv/) (You can click on the address and it should take you there, but if not, you may want to add it to your favorite places for future reference. At the present time there are mostly deaths listed for the counties and begin circa 1917-1954. The archives is trying to add the marriages and births which, I for one, am eagerly anticipating. Does anyone out there have any information about a HOLTON cemetery on Trace Creek. I have found that several people who have links to the Holton family are said to be buried in this cemetery. Hope someone can shed some light or tell me where or who is buried there. Thanks Pat in Florida

I'm looking for information on Martha Johnson, born abt. 1847 Lincoln Co., in or near Carroll district area. She married George Washington Yeager. They had 4 children that I'm aware of before her death which occured between 1880-1890. Children were Cora Belle Yeager, Ida Lee Yeager, Jennetta (Nettie) Yeager, and Bernie (maybe Bernard) Yeager. George is listed in the 1900 census in same area of Carroll, with a second wife and their 7 children as well as Jennetta and Bernie from his first marriage. They had 10 children that I'm aware of: (in birth order) Squire Charles A. md Sarah Edwards Benjamin - death cert. list mother as Ida McClung James Avis - death cert. list mother as Ida Holley Sarah Francis - death cert. list mother as Ida McClung (Sarah married Crawford Vest) Martha Crosby - died before 1860 Matilda - death cert lists mother as Ida Holley (md John Heck) Elisha - article posted about his death lists Ida McClung Enoch - death cert. lists Ida McClung It can't be two different women. The last name alternates back and forth too much. Could Ida have married, even briefly to someone else before Franklin or after Franklin? I've seen what the death certificates say as well as the VA marriage index. I'm wondering if anyone has seen Ida's last name as McClung anyplace else other than the death certificates.
