Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZCC.2ACE/1418.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks, I really appreciate your help. I had not heard the story about the red headed baby! But I sort of figured they got into some silly fight and he married the second wife as an "I'll show you!" then couldn't stay apart after they realized how silly it really was. By the way, have you ever heard of a man named Al B. Miller? I guess it could be Albie, but my uncle who was very close to "Grandpa George" (Jerdan and Ruth's oldest child) used to tell me about this man and he said Al B. Miller was Ruth's son and was raised by someone in her family and that he was once temporary mayor of Charleston. I can find no trace of this man, but low and behold he showed up as Ruth's son (father James Miller) in Joel Hager's file and I know he didn't get that from my Uncle! I e-mailed him, but he only sent me an invitation to join his website. I did, but couldn't find anything more. I know Ruth had a younger relative named Albert, but he doesn't seem to be the same person. Also, my uncle told me Jerdan and Ruth's daughter Geneva, fell in love with Al B. and not knowing he was her 1/2 brother, eloped with him. The family found them and had the marriage annulled. Genevy then went on to marry Wilshure Dunlap. They had no children, but raised a young cous! in. She was a midwife and delivered my mom and most her siblings, she was also their great aunt. Another thing, in case you are related to this family, at some point a researcher recorded Ruth's mother as being Susannah Nickell, and that has been repeated for decades now, but on Ruth's death record and several of her brother's their mother is named as Susan/Susannah Hager. Are you kin to or descended from Jerdan and Ruth, too? Thanks again, Lora I apologize for dragging you away from your original topic!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZCC.2ACE/1418.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks Joetta. Do you think maybe the name Reese Woods as Laura/Laurette's father on her death record was just a clerical error? I bet that happened a lot. I have only come across a few men named Reese. I know I have seen records and known the info was wrong. That is why I am so confused about the father's of Millie's children. The fathers on their death records don't always match other known information. What a find you have in the divorce record for Millie and Reese Holly. Will they let you look at divorce records in Boone County? You have probably got Jerdan and Ruth McCormick on your tree somewhere or ran across the family at least. They were married in 1864, divorced a few years later, he got the three kids, of course! Then he married another woman, but went back to live with Ruth and had two more children with her. I only know this because of his civil war pension papers. There is a signed afidavit stating that the reason he divorced the second wife and remarried Ruth was because the! neighbors were threatening to have him arrested for living in sin, or maybe they called it bigamy. I would like to see their divorce papers, but always thought they were off limits. This all happened in Lincoln, Boone and Kanawha, so it could be the divorce records were lost in the Lincoln County Court House fire, but if not... Also, you may have found Millie's death record on line or at the courthouse, but the handwriting on the record is so bad that if you search her name in the database it won't come up. The easiest way I can bring it up is to search year 1919, Lincoln County and Pauley as the last name. The name on the list that comes up looks like Meliann Pauley, but it's really the record for Millie. I know her father was Jordan/Jerdan Smith, but the record looks like Pap of Paf Smith. Some sort of nickname? He died in 1860, so it's a wonder anyone would even remember 69 years later. Maybe the pesron reporting Millie's only heard her refer to him as "Pap" short for Pappy. Just thinking. It's nice to know there is someone else interested in this branch of the family. Lora

    2. I'm trying to locate copies of the newsletter's for the Adam and Martha Comer Miller annual reunions. The one's I have seen are usually one page with a listing for who won what prize and those who had died during the time between reunions. The first reunion was held around 1930 at the home of James David Miller and his wife Mary Frances Chaney Miller. At my last attendance of the reunion in 1983 it was being held at Little Laurel Baptist Regular Church. I know the reunions are still held but not sure if it is at the same location. Thank you Lora
