Researching Surnames SMITH & STOWERS Looking for descendants of Jacob Smith and Nancy Stowers who may have information about Jacob's parents. Their children were Allenthus Beresford, John Riley, William A.J., Holdridge Henry, Mary Elizabeth, Martha Jane, Sarah Leila, Nancy Almeda, Joseph Sherman, Madison Beevan, Irena Susan and Cosby Ellen. Jacob, Nancy and some of the children moved from Lincoln County to Madison County, Ohio in the 1880's, where both Jacob and Nancy died from typhoid fever in 1892. An obit in the London Times (Ohio) states that Jacob's parents came to this country when he was 18 years old. (Presumably from England). At one time it was Called the Harless Creek Baptist Church and now it is called 4 Mile Creek Baptist Church. Also, there are several Cemeteries up this Road and I would like to get any information on them. I am searching for MCGOWAN who were supposed to have come from the "Big Sandy" , traveled to Adams county,Ohio and were there for the 1820,1830,or 1840 census. Due to courthouse fire I do not have records to connect NATHANIEL MCGOWAN b:1818 to his ancestors who are unknown at this time. There was a JOHN MCGOWAN in Adams county in early census and an ANDREW JACKSON MCGOWAN b:1819 as well,but I have no info to connect these people.
