    1. [WVLINCOL] Re: John Chapman
    2. I would like to have the John Chapman line from Cabell Co. of 1850,who then were located out of Branchland,Sheridan Dist. Lincoln Co. WV., in 1880 Census. They lived close to my Harless's and he is listed in the Will of my GG-Grandfather. In the 1880 Census he is listed as follows: John Chapman 57 Melvina 48 Alemeda 27 Alice 22 Elisha 20 John 12 Joseph 7 Cornelia I. 5 Andrew Chapman 24 Mary K. 19 Avanaugh 4/12 Floyd Adkins 18 BinL William Riley O. Harless died in 1860. His Will (written April 19, 1860 and probated November 5, 1860) stated that all property and belongings went to Nancy and the children. Listed in the will are Polly J., John A.,Jasper, Joseph M., Rebecca C., Cinthia A. and one daughter who isn't named yet (Martha). He stated that James is to be given the piece of land he is already living on. Also, he chose James as the executor along with his friend John Chapman. Chapman family.  How are you connected? Butch > [email protected] Thanks, Butch.  Your message came to me privately, but I'm replying to you via the WV-CABELL list because I'm not the one who is researching the John CHAPMAN who married Lucy HUDSON.   As I noted in my previous message, one can never rely completely on user-submitted trees, so you've confirmed my advice :-)  The additional insight you've offered here should help Melody and Jean.  At least Melody will know where NOT to look! I am connected to the Giles Co. CHAPMANs by marriage.  According to the Giles Co. history that I copied, the ABBOTTs and the CHAPMANs were from Culpeper Co.  "In Nov. 1768, John Chapman, Richard Chapman, Moredock McKensey removed from Culpeper to the Shenandoah, in the  Valley of Va. and from thence in 1771 came to the New River Valley and settled at the mouth of Walker's Cr., where John Chapman had two dwellings destroyed by Indians...."  John CHAPMAN, Sr.'s son, George, married Patience CLAY, whose sister Rebecca is my 5th g-grandmother.  Rebecca married George L. PEARIS (who donated the land upon which Pearisburg was established in Giles Co.).  One of their sons, Samuel Pepper PEARIS, married Rebecca CHAPMAN, granddaughter of John Sr. via his son, Isaac. In case you're interested, I have corresponded with a Jacob MILLER researcher.  (Jacob married John CHAPMAN, Sr.'s daughter, Sallie.)  If you would like to talk with this researcher, let me know.  I also am in touch with many CLAY researchers and can probably put you in touch with descendants of Patience CLAY CHAPMAN. Thanks again for clarifying the erroneous information that folks are spreading about the CHAPMANs.  (I'm with you -- it's why I haven't published as well!) Mary Richardson

    1. [WVLINCOL] U.S. (GOOD!)
    2. Deborah Vance
    3. Every U down in Uville liked U.S. a lot, But the Binch, who lived Far East of Uville, did not. The Binch hated U.S! The whole U.S. way! Now don't ask me why, for nobody can say, It could be his turban was screwed on too tight. Or the sun from the desert had beaten too bright. But I think that the most likely reason of all May have been that his heart was two sizes too small. But, Whatever the reason, his heart or his turban, He stood facing Uville, the part that was urban. "They're doing their business," he snarled from his perch. "They’re raising their families! They're going to church! They're leading the world, and their empire is thriving, I MUST keep the S's and U's from surviving!" Tomorrow, he knew, all the U's and the S's, Would put on their pants and their shirts and their dresses, They'd go to their offices, playgrounds and schools, And abide by their U and S values and rules, And then they'd do something he liked least of all, Every U down in Uville, the tall and the small, Would stand all united, each U and each S, And they'd sing Uville's anthem, "God bless us! God bless!" All around their Twin Towers of Uville, they'd stand, and their voices would drown every sound in the land. "I must stop that singing," Binch said with a smirk, And he had an idea--an idea that might work! The Binch stole some U airplanes in U morning hours, And crashed them right into the Uville Twin Towers. "They'll wake to disaster!" he snickered, so sour, "And how can they sing when they can't find a tower?" The Binch cocked his ear as they woke from their sleeping, All set to enjoy their U-wailing and weeping, Instead he heard something that started quite low, And it built up quite slow, but it started to grow-- And the Binch heard the most unpredictable thing... And he couldn't believe it--they started to sing! He stared down at Uville, not trusting his eyes, What he saw was a shocking, disgusting surprise! Every U down in Uville, the tall and the small, Was singing! Without any towers at all! He HADN'T stopped Uville from singing! It sung! For down deep in the hearts of the old and the young, Those Twin Towers were standing, called Hope and called Pride, And you can't smash the towers we hold deep inside. So we circle the sites where our heroes did fall, With a hand in each hand of the tall and the small, And we mourn for our losses while knowing we'll cope, For we still have inside that U-Pride and U-Hope. For America means a bit more than tall towers, It means more than wealth or political powers, It's more than our enemies ever could guess, So may God bless America! Bless us! God bless!
