I know there's going to be a barage of emails once RootsWeb is back up, but I thought I'd go ahead and put this one and and hope it get's seen by people. I've found alot of my ancestors listed in the Grantee Index I've been telling you guys about. But one thing I'm wondering about. On the LDS library, they have microfilm of the deed books but only up to book 123. I can't seem to find any deed books higher than this. Now I'm wondering how I'm supposed to get a copy of a deed if not through the LDS microfilm. Is there someplace to write for them and if so, what's the cost. I don't know if the Kanawha County Courthouse holds land deeds or if they even make copies and mail them out. I'd write WV Archives, but they'll charge me $10 per request (I think I'm allowed put 2 requests in a letter). I'd much rather get them on microfilm and look them up myself. That'll only cost me $3.25 each, or less, if there's more than one deed on a roll of film. But if I have to, I can write the WV Archives. But if I do, does anyone know if I can send all my requests in one letter, but send them enough money to cover the cost of all the requests ($10 per 2 requests) or do I have to send a letter with only 2 requests and a check for $10 for each and every set of requests? (hope that makes sense) Also, does anyone know of a good website that lists abbreviations for land indexes and deeds? -- Cara Showers Anchorage, Alaska [email protected] GREGORY, LOISEAU, ADKINS, GIBSON, JONES, HACKNEY, HARKINS, RUFFNER, BOWLES, COX, CARNEY, WILLIAMS, THOMAS Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://raogk.rootsweb.com
