    1. [WVKANAWH] Per request: Hansford House
    2. Per request from #55 Per the request on Hansford House in Hansford, WV. I grew up across the street from the house, visiting Eleanor Brannon daily. The last person living in the house died in June 19, 1982 (my birthday), she donated all the contents and house to the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal church. What a sad day - all the contents were sold at public estate sale. The house was sold to Jim Ricco in Hansford - it is now just falling down. Vines are all around, bricks are broken away and it's a sad, sad sight. The large tree is still standing (over 250 years old) but Grandma says doesn't look the same in the fall - leaves aren't as lush. The slave house was torn down before Eleanor died as well as the well. I bought the China at the estate sale and some other pieces that I loved as a child. Some Hansfords are buried on the hill at the mouth Paint Creek in Hansford. You can walk up the hill (there is a road but I wouldn't take my 4 wheeler up). Crown Hill does have some burials; however, as far as I know, the Hansfords' are buried on the Hill. If you are interested in the history, there was a book published a couple of years ago about Hansford, Hospital Hill and all that were involved. Hospital Hill is still located between Crown Hill and Hansford, only no hospital anymore. This might be more than you want, but you asked a question very close to my heart. ...Barbara
