I was wondering if there would be a VERY kind soul out there somewhere who would be interested in helping me understand a land deed that I just receieved in the mail. It's from 1835 and it has a lot of verbage and terminologies that I don't understand. What I'd be looking for is someone I could email this deed to (either I can scan it and email it (preferred) or I can transcribe it and email it) and then [you] could read over it and tell me what it means. I guess I'm not looking for a history lesson about dower rights or anything like that, but just a general interpretation of what the "whereas"es and "whereby"es and stuff like that means. I've read through it a couple of times and it looks like it's one long sentance and I can't seem to grasp it's meaning. I know it's a piece of property that's being sold from one person to another, but there's mention of at least 4 different people and some slaves and a dower and rights to this person and that and bad debt and creditors and a bunch of other stuff. Any takers?
