By lore, my gggg grandparents lived in a fort near St. Albans. They were John and Margaret (Compton) Kinder. The fort they lived in was attacked by Indians circa 1790. John Kinder was killed being white. Margaret and their twins, John and Barbara, walked to the Cabin Creek area from St. Albans to another fort. Margaret was half NA and spared with the twins during the Indian attack. There at the new fort, Margaret met Daniel Javins, married, and had more children. The family spread into Boone Co. - the Kinders and Javinses. There was once a trail connecting the Cabin Creek area with what is now Rt. 3 along through Racine and on up. It was not what became Rt. 119 over Lens Creek Mtn. There are many connedctions between families in Cabin Creek and the Coal River area of Boone. Has anyone heard of Comptons in that area. Margaret must have had a white Compton father and an Indian mother. One of the Kinder twins, John, married Mary Ward in 1807 in Boone Co. Mary was the dtr of an Indian scout James Ward and his Indian wife. The other twin, Barbara Kinder, married a Preston the same day as her twin married Mary Ward in 1807. Does any of this ring bells with anyone? Thank you. Rick Stewart
