    3. SignatureAs some of you know, I wrote back a few weeks ago about my family webpage. It was posted on a temporary site (http://www.scorchedsilicon.com/cristyd), but now it has been fully transferred to my own website. If you want to check it out, the url is http://webpages.charter.net/csdunlap If you have any problems viewing any of the pages, please let me know! Some of the information listed is not viewable because the software I used was not registered. I'm fixing the problem as we speak, and will have everything posted by this weekend! 2. Cathy Meder-Dempsey
    3. Hi List, James Light md. Nancy Jane Windon 23 Sep 1856 - Kanawha County, Virginia. Does someone have Kanawha County Marriage Records listing the names of parents and places of birth of the bride and groom? I'd like to know if James Light is listed as being born in Randolph Co., Indiana, and if he was the son of Enoch Light and Mary "Polly" Kelly. I've located James in the 1850-1870 census and he is consistently listed as born in Virginia. Cannot find the family in 1880. Don't have an index for 1900 that would help in my search. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you. Cathy

    1. Re: [WVKanawha] Middle Name/Initial
    2. Hi, Thought some on the list may not have encountered this before. It does help to look at naming patterns, even when they are not followed exactly "by the book". June OLD NAMING PATTERNS The first son was named after the father's father. The second son was named after the mother's father. The third son was named after the father. The fourth son was named after the fathers eldest brother. The first daughter was named after the mother's mother. The second daughter was named after the father's mother. The third daughter was named after the mother. The fourth daughter was named after the mothers eldest sister, always. ALSO: 2nd wife's oldest daughter named after the first wife, using her full name. Children after those listed above were usually named after a favorite relative with some possible exceptions: If a child died in infancy, a later child might be given the same name. When a newly ordained minister baptized his first child, if that child were a boy, he would be named for the minister, if a girl, she would receive his surname as her middle name. If a child were fostered, usually because of being orphaned, he may be named for the foster parent.

    2. OK, here goes! Can anyone out there help me find a woman that has been "missing" since the early 1940's. I do not know how to begin to find her. Her name is Edith Nancy Brock Bowe. She married Everett Thomas Bowe in 1938 and also had her first child in 1938. At some point she divorced Bowe and left her daughters for the family to raise. Edith left sometime in the early 40's and has not been heard of since. Can anyone help me or tell me were to start. It is possible she is still living and remarried. Any help would be deeply appreciated she has two daughters that would like to know what happened to their mother. Of course all of this took place in Kanwaha County Thanks, Mary Neal

    2. Julie Hesson
    3. Cristy, My grandfather's mother's name was Helen Marie Eldred (1848-1911). She married Samuel Prince Chapin in 1873. When my grandfather was born, they named him Burton Eldred Chapin. I think it was a late 19th century custom, and certainly a boon to us family historians, because it gives us clues to our maternal lines. And I have used my maiden surname as my legal middle name for forty years. I have a Grand Uncle who's name is Ira M. Dunlap. A few days ago, his son Ronnie, emailed me and said that Ira never really had a middle name, but used his mother's maiden name, Myers, as his middle initial. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing and should this be noted (and of course further researched)? I do know that their first son Robert relocated IN. Where is still unknown. I know their only child Susie was b. in IN and then by the time she married and began her family she was in the St. Albans area. I don't know much on her mother. She was widowed so young and with a yr old child. She and Robert were only married 5 yrs. I have found Susannah's line in WV and have some cemetery photos. Now I need to find living relatives and any lead on where our Robert GRIFFITHS is buried. This is the first of this line. I will continue with each of the children of John/Elizabeth (nee JONES) GRIFFITHS I am hoping to hear from some of each of the lines. I have compiled a 4 cd set on this family so far and hope it continues to grow. I have not been in contact with any of this line as of yet. But here's to hoping. Pat Jones riverrat111@earthlink.net
