Ten years after his marriage to Mary he was hanged for her murder, convicted of her drowning in Coal River. He was a former Baptist preacher and he had fallen in love with another woman. He planned to marry her after Mary was dead. The morning of the execution he rode in a wagon to the gallows, seated on his own coffin. The crowd of 5,000 [?] sang two hymns, he sang with them and then blamed his predicament on whisky, saying he could not recall many of his sins because he was so drunk when he committed them. He kissed his daughter and asked Sheriff Slack to trigger the gallows. He was hanged at high noon in Charleston, WV.<< Thanks for writing, Sandy in Florida I will gladly share genealogy information if you will kindly do the same. Can a TURLEY or WEST researcher please tell me who were the parents of Mary Susan WEST Turley (1828-1858)? Also, who were her three children, and what happened to each of them? Appreciation from, Frances Wentz Taber

Dear List Members, Can anyone tell me where to find out more about the BREAM family and their salt manufacturing company which was in existence in 1820? The following is the information I have located so far. My William GRAHAM would be 15-16 years old in 1820, his father had died 1815-1818, and I believe he was living with the BREAM family. In a biography on Christopher Bream GRAHAM, it states that his father, William GRAHAM was one of the first manufacturers of salt in the Great Kanawha Valley, having begun when a boy with Major BREAM. In the 1820 Census, Kanawha, VA, I find a James Bream with the following: 2 males between 16 and 18 12 males of 16 and under 26 21 males of 26 and under 45 1 male of 45 and up 1 female of 10 and under 16 4 female of 16 and under 26 2 female ages 45 and up People in Manufacturing: 33 Jeanette Graham French

Hello, I am trying to find the burial place of my great grandfather John Mullaney. I believe he died between 1900-1910. He was a coal miner and lived on Cabin Creek with his family. I was told there was a catholic cemetery near Coalburg that was given by the mine owners for the miners to be buried. Is the cemetery still there, does anyone know anything about it? Also I know the family attended the Catholic church and the oldest one is at Coalburg,Good Shepherd Mission Catholic church. I called them and they were going to find out where the church records were kept, have not heard back but will call again. Does anyone know where the records might be? Sorry this is so long. Thanks for your help. I am researching Mullaney, McCormick, Wriston, Stover, Adkinson, Atkinson Pat Adkinson padkinso@utk.edu
