The Cabin Creek district is a very important locale for WV history. It was one of the first areas settled after western Virginia opened up for settlement. My Morris ancestors settled there, in a cabin of a man who was killed and scalped by Indians just previously. That might have been the cabin in the subject. I have posted this message to several sources, hoping someone has an answer. There seems to be a paper trail for those who have bought and sold land, made wills. etc. Where does one go to find a relative who probably was dirt poor, and never did any lthing that would involve paper work? Some people have researched their families so thoroughly, that they know what they had for breakfast. I can't even determine my g-g-g-grandfather's first name or where he is buried. I just can't believe they all lived up in the mountains, and never had any contact with the world. CAn someone point into which direction I should search? I'd be grateful for any pointers. Carol

Does anyone have a list of the men who served in the 80 Regt Militia from Kanawha County? The Captain was William W Pauley "C"Co. The roll date was Sept 14, 1862 and the men were inrolled at Forks of coal. Thanks anything would be useful as I am just beginning to look for this information. I found there were 202 men in this unit. What did they do and did they stay in Kanawha or go elsewhere? Thanks Pat
