    1. [WVKANAWH] Fw: [AMOS] William L. Amos 1865-191?
    2. Pat Muniz
    3. William L. Amos is my great grandfather and was from North Carolina according to the census records and his marriage record to Josephine Howard 4 Aug 1891. They lived in the Cross Lanes District of Kanawha County, WV and had five children: Charles, Millard, Fisher, Ida, and Paul. (I have always wondered if Fisher and Millard were family names.) He died sometime between the 1910 and 1920 censuses. The only other information I have is that he worked in a sawmill. Any information would be greatly appreciated. 1. [WVKANAWH] Kudos to the WV Archives
    2. Cara Showers
    3. I just wanted to pass on some kudos for the WV Archives to the list. If anyone is considering writing to them for help, I would recommend that you do it! I have always had such wonderful luck with them in the past. And I just got a packet yesterday in the mail from them. I had written them 3 different letters, each were asking about 3 different family members who I was having trouble finding records on. They sent me a packet containing all the info they could find on these 3 individuals and what a gold mine of information it was! They sent me copies from indexes for marriage, birth, death, census and land records. I couldn't believe all that they'd found. Now, some of it, I'd already found on my own, but about half of it, I hadn't. The amount of information they sent me would have taken me months to find and alot of money spent renting microfilm through the LDS. And it was all at a bargain. I probably would have spent $50 researching and renting microfilm and sending off for copies from the courthouse. They only charged me $10! Just wanted to share that with ya'll. -- Cara Showers Anchorage, Alaska [email protected] Surnames I'm Researching: GREGORY: Charlotte, VA 1830s; Monroe, WV 1860s; Kanawha, WV 1870s--> ADKINS: Charles City, VA 1690; Goochland, VA 1735; Lunenburg, VA 1754 Montgomery, VA 1794; Cabel, (W)VA 1834; Kanawha 1873--> JONES: Prince William, VA 1760; Monroe, (W)VA 1802; Kanawha, WV 1870s--> LOISEAU: Taylor, (W)VA 1859; Kanawha, WV 1880--> GIBSON: Ireland 1700; Talbot, MD 1840; Greenbrier, (W)VA 1782; Kanawha, WV 1870--> THOMAS: Jersey City, NJ, 1839; Kanawha, WV 1874 HACKNEY: Russell, VA 1765; Tazwell, VA 1796; Pike, VA 1837; Kanawha, WV 1874--> BOWLES: Henry, VA 1850; Franklin, VA 1870; Kanawha, WV 1875--> COX: England 1705; VA 1738; Gilmer, VA 1819; Roane, WV 1888; Kanawha, WV 1918--> CARNEY: Prince William, VA 1730; Hampshire, VA 1769; Randolph, VA 1873; Mason, (W)VA 1821; Kanawha, (W)VA 1868--> WILLIAMS: Unknown, WV 1887; Kanawha, WV 1900-->

    3. Hi List Members: I'm new to the list so before subscribing I reviewed the list archives for the names of the Kanawha Counties for whom I am searching. Alas, no one posted any information that was quite what I was looking for but this looks like a list where people like to share info, so here I am! My husband's family hails from Kanawha Co., WV. His grandfather was Lewis Edward Walker. My husband's father died when my husband was a 12-year old so our information is extremely limited. However, we know the following: Lewis Edward Walker can be found with his family in the 1900 Kanawha Co. Census in Charleston District. His bd info is given as Mar 1867, WV. His wife, Della, b Jul 1872, WV. The children present in 1900 are Helen M. b Jul 1892, Mary A. b Jan 1898, Susan O. b Mar 1900. At least two other children were born following the census: Edward Lewis b 7 May 1904, and an unknown female. We also know from the family that Della died before 1910 and the children were raised by their uncle and aunt, Philip and Lillie Walker. They are nearby Lewis in the 1900 census. Based on the obituary for Edward Lewis Walker d 16 Aug 1952 in S. Charleston, Kanawha Co., WV we believe his mother's maiden name to be Frudella Mutter. However, no marriage record has been found. We know from a letter written by Mary A. Walker, dau of Lewis Edward Walker, that the name Wintz occurs in the family. With this information, I have been looking at the Alexander Walker family that also appears in the 1900 Kanawha Co., WV census. The Alexander Walker household in Malden District has a Susan Wintz residing in the household. In a search of the list archives I found that Alexander's wife was named Ann Wintz. I am awaiting the 1880 census so that I can place Lewis Edward Walker in the Alexander Walker household. In the interim, does anyone on this list want to "claim" my husband's family as being part of their own? I see that several of you have Walker info, or Walker relatives. Kathleen Casson Walker P.S. In the transcript that I have of the 1860 Kanawha Co. Census there is an 11-year old boy named Edward Harmon who was living with Alexander Walker & family. Could this indicate that "my" potential Walker family is related to the Parkin? lineage that was posted on this list in 1999? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. Hello Everyone, I've received a letter (snail-mail) from a lady in Ohio. Apparently she does not have an e-mail connection. She's got a brother William S. DONAHUE. She's looking for information on Joseph Nathaniel JONES. He had a brother George JONES and other siblings possibly. Joseph was a dentist and George was an ear doctor. They practiced in Roane County, West Virginia, Missouri & Oklahoma. She's trying to find out who their parents were; Joseph was born 1868, and died 1941. She thinks Joseph first wife was Elizabeth RUSSELL. Joseph was married twice after Elizabeth. She also has a sister-in-law, who is about 90 years old. Her father was Hoy CASTO from Philippi, West Virginia. Lucille had/has sisters; Hazel, Vera and others. She may have had/has brothers Herschel, who was the strawberry Kind of Buchanan or Philippi, West Virginia. I'm preparing to write her a snail-mail letter. Anyone out there that can help her?
