    1. [WVKANAWH] Basheba White m. Eli Martin nr Charleston in 1836
    2. john voorhees
    3. Is anyone else working on the family of Eli Martin, born on July 18, 1812 in Virginia, married Barsheba White,(Dau. of Nathaniel White and Mary Moles, b. 1822 near Charlestown, Va.--I think Kanawha Co.), moved to Indiana, then to Jackson Co.,Iowa in 1850/51 then moved to Lincoln Twp, Cass Co., Iowa in 1873????? Both buried in Lincoln Center Cemetery just South of Anita, Iowa. Need Eli's Parents. Have death certificate from Iowa, no parents mentioned, just court docket record recording death. Have complete certificate for Barsheba/Basheba. Eli's father was probably from Virginia, according to census. Probably looking for a Martin that died in either Kanawha Co. or Berkley Co.(or nearby). Prefer Kanawha Co. because have obit that says they were from KNOY Co. Va(totally bogus so must be Kanawha Co.). According to history, Charleston WVa. used to be Charlestown Va. but then there was another one in Berkley Co. Thanks in advance for any input, John Voorhees, Romeo, Mich.

He is also listed in 1860 Census records for Kanawha County, VA/WV . In 1870 Kanawha County Census records, he may be listed incorrectly as Abner Canterill. The surname may be also listed as Cantrell or Cantor in some records. Abner Cantrell married Amanda Pritt on 15 March 1861 & they had 3 children before her untimely death in 1869. Abner Canton may have migrated with the Pritts from Monroe to Kanawha County. Thank you in advance for any information or guidance. I look forward to reading your comments. Sincerely, Mike Peters [email protected]

    1. [WVKANAWH] Mathews/Pritt
    2. Am searching for information on Ina Mathews who married Clemit Brown Pritt. Evidence of their marriage is found in Clemit Brown Pritt's obit that was published in the June 30, 1942 edition of the Charleston Gazette. The obit mentions a wife Ina but does not give her age. Clemit Brown Pritt was born 12 October 1914 & died 29 June 1942. There is an Ina Matthews listed in Kanawha County, WV birth records as being born on 3 April 1918. Oral legend tells me that Ina was the d/o of Bell/Belle Mathews. Clemit Brown Pritt is buried in the Boggess Cemetery, Allen's Fork, Kanawha County, WV. Also interred there are Walter & Belle Mathews. Walter & Belle Mathews were probably the parents of Ina Mathews. 1900 Kanawha County Census Records list Walter Mathews & Rona B. Mathews as boarders in the home of Charles & Rebecca Huffman. It is possible that Belle Mathews is actually Rona Belle Mathews. Thank you in advance for any information. I look forward to reading your E-mails & learning more about Ina Mathews, her family & her date of marriage to Clemit Brown Pritt. Sincerely, Mike Peters [email protected]

The paperback book is geared for childrenages 9-14. Shawnee Capitive: The Story of Mary Ingles, a second book by Furbee, has also been released by Morgan Reynolds Publishing of North Carolina. Outrageous Women of Colonial America features 14 women of diverse regions, races, professions and backgrounds, a majority of whome were involved in or heavily impacted by the colonial wars -- from conflicts between white settlers and Native Americans to the Revolutionary War. Some, of the featured women, for example First Lady Abigail Adams and religious dissident Anne Hutchinson, are well-known historical figures. Other women featured in the book are comparatively obsure, for example the Wampanoag chief Weetamoo of New England who led her tribe in battle against encroaching white settlers and Anne Bailey a female scout on the western Virginia frontier during the "Indian Wars."
