Hi Pat, I found the name Mary Moles on my great grandmother's death certificate from Iowa as being her mother. Barsheba was born in the Charleston West Virginia area in 1822. Her father, Nathaniel appears in Kanawha Co. Census of 1830 as being quite old(60-70) in 1830 and his wife appears as being 20-30 in 1830. The 1900 census of Barsheba shows her parents, father as being born in Arkansas and mother as being born in Virgina(so probably West Virginia and in the Charleston area---just a guess). Sorry I can't tell you more for sure but I've been stabbing around in the dark for some time trying to find out Eli's parents. His death certificate had only a court docket record showing his birth date and death date. Do you have any dates on your Emily Moles and her father Edward Moles?? If you get any good information on Mary Moles, born in Virginia about 1800-1808, please let me know. regards, John Voorhees ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2001 9:11 PM Subject: Re: [WVKANAWH] Martins in Kanawha County(ELI-1812) In a message dated 6/5/01 12:13:30 PM Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Nathaniel White and Mary Moles) in 1836 in the Charleston area and immediately moved to Franklin Co. I have an Emily Moles who married James Erasus Ross TUCKER and lived in Kanawha County. They are my 4th great grandparents. I believe that the father of Emily Moles was Edward Moles Sr and I just got some interesting information about an Edward Moles from 1692/93 and it mentions his wife which is the first mention of his wife I have ever seen anywhere. Hello Everyone, On the 1900 Census - Washington District, Kanawha County, West Virginia 195-195 Clark, L. Jane, head, w, f, August 1841, 58, widow, WV, farmer Clark, Lorena B., granddaughter, w, f, 1890, 10, WV Lucy was the widow of Jesse Clark (b. abt. 1832 in Kanawha County, d. Bef. June 1, 1900). Lucy's parents were Frederick Parsons & Sarah Turley. I've got Jesse & Lucy as having 8 children. But on the 1910 Kanawha County Census it was noted that she had 9 children and 2 were dead. Children of Jesse Clark and Lucy Parsons are: i. William M. Clark, b. Abt. March 1860, Virginia; d. September 1, 1870, Washington District, Kanawha County, West Virginia. ii. Cynthia A. Clark, b. Abt. 1864, Virginia. iii. John Ira Clark, b. January 4, 1866, Kanawha County, West Virginia. iv. ? Child Clark, b. March 1, 1868, Alum Creek, Kanawha County, West Virginia. (What was this child's name?) v. James Henry Clark, b. December 6, 1869, Ruth, Alum Creek, Kanawha County, West Virginia; d. February 18, 1901, Washington District, Kanawha County, West Virginia; m. Della M. Riffe, September 16, 1898, Kanawha County, West Virginia; b. May 1882, Ruth, Kanawha County, West Virginia; d. March 1935, Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia. vi. Mary E. Clark, b. Abt. 1872. vii. Geneva A. Clark, b. February 2, 1873, Alum Creek, Kanawha County, West Virginia. viii. Lieuvena Clark, b. July 1876, West Virginia; m. John Martin, Abt. 1900; b. February 1876, Kentucky; d. Unknown. Does anyone know anything about a Lorena Clark? Who's daughter was she? I know she was not a daughter of James Henry Clark. Maybe she was a daughter of John Ira Clark or the missing child. Or possibly she was one of Jesse & Lucy's daughters? Living next door to Lucy J. Clark and her granddaughter during the 1900 Kanawha County Census was Albert Brogan, m, w, January 1869, 31, married 8 years, WV. and family. There is some connection between the Clarks and Brogans but I've not exactly put the lines together yet. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any help, Pat Surnames I'm Researching - Primarily North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia/west Virginia....Clark, Davis, Good, Goode, Haldeman, Kidd, Landers, Martin, Midkiff, Nicholas, Nichols, Oglesby, Parsons, Pauley, Pemberton, Riffe, Ranck/Ronk, Self/Selfe, Showalter, Turley & Wallace/Wallis.

Here is another site that is excellent for finding places: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form This site is particularly good because, as we know, many of the coal towns in West Virginia either have changed their names or no longer exist. The U.S. Geological Survey site includes not only currently existing towns, but historical ones and variant names. For example, the town of Stuart in Fayette Co. is now called Lochgelly. The Rootsweb site gives me no hits for Stuart, WV; however, the USGS site does, giving me its current name, and I can access a map to pinpoint its location. On the downside, the USGS recently made changes to their site and it seems to run slow ever since. Hopefully, they will get the bugs worked out soon. Trying to locate any information on my great great grandparents William and Fanny WALKER. I have been told they were from Kanawha County but haven't been able to locate any records. They had several children who lived in the county. They had twin daughters, Viola and Vinnie. Viola Walker married Alexander Coffey and lived in Fayette and Raleigh County where she died in 1944 of a stroke. Their children were Raymond Coffey, Darrell Coffey who married Louise Michealson and at one time lived at Cabin Creek with children, Tom, Mary, Connie Coffey and another boy who I can;t rememeber his name. in the 1960-1970's later moved to around Dickerson. James "Jim" Coffey, and Ida Coffey. I have been told that Vinnie drowned and her body was never found. There was also other siblings/ ANY guidance into this subject would be greatly appreciated.
