    1. [WVKanawha] Robert F. Amos Lookup
    2. Pat Muniz
    3. Thanks to everyone who responded to my lookup request. This is the first time any of my family have shown up in Lincoln County. I'm embarrassed to admit , I had to look up a WV map to see where Lincoln County is located. In 1900 Robert was listed in Kanawha County, Jefferson district. He may have moved there to be closer to his only son, William L. Amos who was living in the Union District. I don't have a real handle on how close the different districts are to each other. 1. [WVKanawha] Nancy HACKNEY Goff Ashby
    2. Brearry
    3. Dear List Members, I am in a quandary and need your advice. I have posted this information on a WV site and a Hackney site (where it has been met with good advice and support) but I felt I needed to touch base with other Hackney's, as she has a long line of descendants. This message is to Nancy's descendents, whom I know many reside in Kanawha Co.... Nancy HACKNEY Goff Ashby is my g-g-g-grandmother. She is the daughter of John and Nancy ANDERSON Hackney. She first married a James Goff (my direct line) and second, a Thomas Ashby. Nancy and Thomas are buried in a very remote cemetery in Roane Co. WV. Nancy died in 1894, Thomas in 1925. Nancy's headstone is made of a limestone/sandstone material and is in very bad condition. Thomas who died much later and was a Civil War vet, has a different type of headstone which is in good shape. I would like to personally, at my expense, replace Nancy's headstone. But here is where the problem lies... #1. Do I need permission from anyone, except the owners of the land that the cemetery is on? #2. Are there any Hackney's that would disapprove? It saddens me to see her grave in such disrepair and even more so to think that in a few more years, it will be lost forever.... Any and all input is greatly appreciated! Thank you, Brenda Jo

    3. I have a question regarding my Personal Ancestral Files. For some reason, all of my marriage dates were listed under the "Other Events, Single" section under "Edit Marriage." Is there a way to move the dates from that field to the correct field (marriage and place) without having to do all 1500+ marriages manually? That would really be a pain! TIA, Cristy

    3. Just so everyone knows, some of the individual's on my webpage may have "Living" as their first names. A forewarning to you though, that I'm uncertain as to some of them if they are indeed living or deceased. Some of them are not related to me, possibly are but who knows yet, so they are listed that way to help keep the webpage running smoothly and so that I could defer between their first names and their last names. (Some of the names given were confusing). It's hard to describe in writing, but like I said before, if you have any questions, please let me know. Great Granny, an expert on herbs & poultices, told your father about the Spicewood birch, the tree for which Spicewood "holler" was named. "That's a little tree-like sort of a bush, grows wild all around here. It smells right good, and you can take and make a tea of it, and it tastes good and is good for your blood too." Great Grandpa, a man of 82, got a little agitated when Mr. Gwin asked if he was retired. "I'm still farmin'! See that stack of fencepoles? Skinned 'em myself the other day. Plowed a right smart of ground this spring, and I've raised a garden and do all the work myself." Above the article is a picture of them sitting next to each other on a glider. They are smiling and laughing. Forty years later, I can still hear their voices. Your father made that possible. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

Made me think of a somewhat-related story I've shared before but I think may bear repeating here. In about 1951, when my daddy, Adrian Gwin, was starting out his career as the Roving Reporter for the Charleston Daily Mail, he interviewed a Kanawha Valley centenarian, Mrs. Estaline Bryant, "born Estaline Hutchinson on Muddlety Creek about eight miles out of Summersville." Present for the interview were members of the next five generations below her: her daughter, Mrs. Martha White; Mrs. White's daughter, Mrs. J. H. Bryant; HER daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Whitman; then the gg-g-dau, Mrs. Bob Drake with her baby, Terry Lynn Drake, then three years old. Estaline Bryant said to him, "That little one down at the end--she's so far down the line she's not very much kin to me, is she!" :-) May the fun of finding family never fade, and may each one you rediscover find new life in Jesus Christ.
