Dee, and anyone else who is baffled by this (and there are lots of us!), Think of these Rootsweb sites as classrooms in a school building. In one room, you have the GenForum board for Jackson County, which is where lots of specific data is posted--county war veterans' lists, cemetery inventories, some census records, and a query list. In another room, you have the WVJACKSO-L maillist, which covers discussion topics of general interest pertinent to the county. And frequently, people in one room, just never seem to find their way into the other room, to see what's happening, there. So.... Since the original query was posted by someone on that particular GenForum Board, the County Listowner, who subscribes to both, forwards queries from that board, to this list, in case there are folks here, who aren't subscribed, there. Then we won't miss what may be an important message to our research. And if you have something that may help someone who has posted to the GenForum board, you are asked to click on the URL, and go to that board, to post your reply. That way, the post-er will be certain to see your response, in case s/he isn't subscribed to this maillist. It's just a way of spreading the info around in a wider range. Clear as mud? Hope this helps! Julie, endlessly sorting out dead relatives.....
