The eldest Edith Battin (b. 1787), the daughter of Samuel Battin, married Samuel Dewees son of John Dewees, the revolutionary, and Mary Updegrove. This marriage took place in Jefferson County, Ohio, in 1809. They settled in Jackson County, West Virginia raising a large family. Edith Battin had a sister, Rachel Battin (b. June 2, 1891), who married Samuel Dewees' brother William Dewees on January 9, 1812, and also settled in Jackson County. The Dewees lineage goes back to the Netherlands via, Delaware, Germantown (PA), and New York. The Battins came from Chester County, PA. The Dewees' are my major area of research but want to share this Battin info with you.
