Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WCC.2ACE/4250.2 Message Board Post: hi, i grew up in ravenswood, went to school in the 50's and 60's. about every kid would take trips to visit relatives in the pittsburgh area and northeast ohio. your observations are right on. between the years 1910 and 1940 jackson co.'s population dropped from 23,000 down to 14,000. you're right ; they went north to find work in the industrial belt, got settled in then got their friends and relatives to come. i believe this was also helped out by the transportation dynamics of the day. in the early days of that period they could still jump on a riverboat or shortly thereafter take a train which followed the ohio river bank for ease of construction. it would take 'em to both areas. the hillbillies { i use the term with respect and affection as i am proud to be one} were not afraid of work and the factory managers would take their their word on the worth of a friend or relative they wanted to help get on. i've heard a lot of these stories. and , of course the jac! kson countians were suave and good looking so they usually found a local sweetheart. anyway, that's my opinion as a very amateur historian. also i'll keep an eye out for the names you're interested in as i continue my research. good luck, God bless. fletch
