Orris Murl Burkholder, 82, of the Evergreen Hills community, Cottageville, WV, died May 29, 2001, peacefully at his residence, following an extended illness. He was born December 5, 1918 in Nicholas County a son of the late, Quinten and Margaret (Fields) Burkholder. He was a retired maintenance welder from Kaiser Aluminum, Ravenswood, WV. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union #5668, a former coal miner, a WWII Army veteran, a member of the VFW post #3488, Sandyville, WV, and he attended the Evergreen Hills Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are sons, Doyle (Jody) Burkholder of Vienna, and Roger Burkholder of Lakin; sisters, Ermal Burkholder of Nettie, and Mary Fugate of Alderson; granddaughter, Jodine Uppole of Davisville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivora Ann Burkholder; sisters, Vina Fields and Velva O'Dell. Service will be Saturday, June 2, 2001 -- 11 am at the Evergreen Hills Freewill Baptist Church, with Pastor Mark Price officiating. Graveside service will follow at 4 pm in the Fields Cemetery, Nettie, WV. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Friday at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, and 1 hour prior to service at the church.
