He was born in Dunbar, WV, on November 25, 1924, a son of the late Leslie and Amy Conway Dawson Parkins. He was a Millwright at Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. in Ravenswood, where he retired in 1987. He attended Dunbar High School; was a lifetime member of Millwrights Local #1755; belonged to Parkersburg American Legion #15; former member of South Hills Counrty Club where he played in the Senior Citizens League. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Patterson Parkins, Ravenswood, WV; daughter and son-in-law, Rosemarie and Gary Lawson, Ravenswood, WV; son, Ronald Parkins, Ravenswood, WV; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Debra Parkins, Matthews, NC; stepchildren, Edwin and his wife Billie Patterson, Ravenswood, and Michael and his wife Sharon, Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Katie Patterson and Andrew Patterson, Ravenswood, WV; Kevin Lawson, Ravenswood, WV, Karyn Lawson(Jeff) Stephens, of South Point, Ohio; Christina Parkins, Matthews, NC; 2 great grandchildren, Gage and Macy Stephens, South Point, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, and first wife, Fredericka Parkins. Services were held on Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Rev. Darrell Tackett officiating. Burial followed in Ravenswood Cemetery, with military rites provided by the American Legion Post #15. Visitation was held on Monday, September 17, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family requests donations be made to Kanawha Hospice; envelopes will be provided by the funeral home. The family would like to thank the Ravenswood Village staff for their excellent care and service.
