George Robert Rood, 73, of Ripley, WV, departed this life, August 18, 2001 at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, following an extended illness. He was born February 21, 1928 in Middleport, OH, a son of the late, Perry Uriah and Lillie Ann (Shaver) Rood. He was an ordained Freewill Baptist minister, a member of the Jackson County Ministerial Association, and a member of the Scioto Valley Christian Conference. He was an Evangelist and had pastored several churches in Ohio and West Virginia. He was a carpenter and welder by trade. Survivors include a son, Robert Rood of Sidney, OH; daughter, Rebecca Joyce 'Becky' Stewart of Roseville, OH; brothers, Rev. Ferrell M. Rood of Zaleski, OH, John Rood of Springfield, TN; sisters, Helen Wetherholt of Winter Springs, FL, Naoma Hope Ratliff of Oak Hill, WV, Dorothy Rood of Wellston, OH, and Mary Jones of Madison Heights, MI; 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Wendel) Rood; daughter, Wilda Gaye Rood; brothers, Perry, Jr., Joseph, and James; sisters, Imogene, Augustine, Crystal Lee, Beatrice Fay, and Olive. Service will be Wednesday, August 22, 2001--1 pm at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with the Rev. Ferrell Rood and the Rev. Clyde Syner officiating. Graveside service will be 3:30 pm, in the Neal Cemetery, Milton, WV. Visitation 6 - 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
