He was born on September 9, 1947, a son of the late Roger C. and Elearnor Lee McGugin Rymer. Tom was a graduate of Ravenswood High School with the class of 1966. He attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from Marietta College with Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry, Physics and Geology. He taught high school Chemistry at Elkins High School and Ravenswood High School. He was an Associate Professor of Physics at West Virginia University and there earned his Masters Degree in Geology, and pursued his doctorate. He was a Research Developer and Analyst for the Geological Research Department at WVU until 1992. Since then, he has been a Chemistry and Math tutor for many area students. He also took great pride in his knowledge of Ravenswood history. Surviving are his brothers, Charles R. Rymer and wife Barb, Pocahontas County, WV; and James D. Rymer and wife Crystal, Ravenswood; sisters, Dot Rymer Carroll, Ashland, KY; Katherine Rymer Garrett and Sonny Garrett, Ravenswood; and Dr. Dee Rymer, Ravenswood; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, Meehee, Tackle, Lee, Jules, Bee, Bubbles, Booper, Kelly, Leigh Ann, Buggy, Big K, Ollie, Blue, Admiral Harris T. Bosman, Sissy, Rhodie, Weegie, Katie, Ryan, Cary, Lit, and Raylee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents; brother, Roger C. Rymer II, and great niece, Rebecca Grace Carroll. Services were held on Saturday, August 27, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Deacon Jamie Lester officiating. Burial followed in Ravenswood Cemetery. Friends visited the family at the funeral home on Friday, August 26, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ravenswood Public Library, 323 Virginia Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164.
