He died at home on September 12, 2005, after a short illness. His beloved wife of 64 years was near him. Jake was born on July 5, 1915, in Milton, WV, but moved to Ravenswood at the age of three. He graduated from Ravenswood High School in 1935. Jake was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ravenswood, where he served as a deacon and sang bass in the church choir. The children of the church remember him as the chewing gum man. He was the first cub master and served two terms on the city council. Jake worked for the Ravenswood Wholesale Grocery Company for three years, then entered business as owner of the Sterling Service Station. He also worked as Sergeant of Guard at West Virginia Ordinance Works, General Chemical TNT Plant, Pt. Pleasant, WV, during World War II. He then entered into contracting business with Dr. J. H. Donavan and later with his brother, Freeman, until 1950. He managed Ravenswood Lumber Company for Bob Cole in Ravenswood while Bob was in the service, and retired from JCo Lumber after 29 years in 1979. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Moore, Hattie McGhee Moore; an infant son, John Franklin II, brothers, Freeman Moore, Paul Moore, and sisters, Pansy Casto, and Rose Keister. Surviving relatives are his wife, Loraine Dye Moore, Ravenswood; son, David Charles Moore and his wife Mary Jo; grandson, Matthew Franklin Moore, of Ravenswood; great granddaughter, Haley Corrine Moore, Axton, VA; and sisters, Daisy Moore Nancarrow, Florida, and Mary Moore Stevenson, Ravenswood. The family would like to extend their thanks to the devoted employees of the Jackson County Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful contribution to Jake's last days. Services were held on Thursday, September 15, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Reverend Ron Stoner officiating. Burial followed in Ravenswood Cemetery. Friends visited the family at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 14, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friends may express their condolences to the Moore family at [email protected]
