Fletcher, 87, of Ravenswood, WV, departed this life on August 15, 2005, at his home. He was born on September 2, 1917, in Palestine, WV, a son of the late Boyd and Margie Litton Fletcher. He served in the U. S. Army from 1938 to 1946, attaining the rank of Captain. He was a member of VFW Post 6669 in Ravenswood for nearly 60 years and was company commander of the local Army Reserve unit at Ripley for several years following World War II. His great grandfather, Stalnaker, was a first cousin to Stonewall Jackson and he was a descendant of Henry McWhorter, one of the first settlers of Lewis County. He was a craftsman by trade, doing plumbing and appliance repair for a living. In his spare time, he had enjoyed bowling and going to horse shows with his horse, Prince. Surviving is his wife, Jane Parsons Fletcher, Ravenswood; daughter, Jeanne Brownlee and husband Don, Issue, MD; son, Jim Fletcher and wife Nancy, Plover, Wisconsin; 4 grandchildren, Julie Brownlee, Waldorf, MD; Dina Thorne, Berlin, MD; and Kelly and Jim Fletcher, Plover, Wisconsin; 1 great granddaughter, Kiersen Thorne; stepchildren, Lin Parsons and Susan Boore; and stepgrandchildren, Rachel, Seth, Ethan, and Abra Boore, Fairmont, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Ira and Kermit; sister, Iris; and his first wife, Doris Kent Fletcher. Services were held on Thursday, August 18, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Reverend Darrell Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Ravenswood Cemetery. Friends visited the family at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 17, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friends may express their condolences to the Fletcher family at [email protected]
