She was born on September 28, 1908, in Jackson County, WV, a daughter of the late Samuel and Julia Cayton. She was a retired public school teacher with 30 years service in the Jackson County School System. She was a member of the Independence United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Surviving is her son, Harold Sullivan and wife Lucy, Milton, WV; daughter, Leona Woods and husband Donald, Huntington, WV; sister, Wilma Riggs, Ripley; brother, Charles Walker Cayton, Irmo, SC; 5 grandchildren, Nancy Holliday and husband John, Beverly McCoy and husband John; Sandra Sowards and husband Jeff; Karen Alford and husband Jack; and Jennifer Spoor and husband Steve; 9 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willis D. Sullivan; son, Lawrence; sister, Golda Riggs; and brothers, Ernest and Waldo Cayton. Services were held on Monday, May 2, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the Independence United Methodist Church in Sandyville, with Pastor Stephen Rhoades officiating. Burial followed in Independence Cemetery in Sandyville. Friends visited with the family at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, on Sunday, May 1, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and one hour prior to service at the church on Monday.
