He was born on August 6, 1913, in Hemlock, WV, son of the late James B. "Bob" Patterson and Dessie M. Archer Patterson. He was a retired farmer, and a founding father of the Racine Gun Club. He was a member of the American Legion; he was in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 5th Army with General Mark Wayne Clark, serving in Sicily, Naples, and Rome, Italy. He was the recipient of 3 bronze stars. Surviving is his sister, Mrs. Ann Boso, Portland, OH; and special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray, Rex, Herbert, Ted and Jim Patterson; and sisters, Susie Leep, Pauline Evans, Adah Gorrell, Lucy Rexroat, and Azelline Smith. Services were held on Sunday, April 3, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, WV, with Reverend DeWayne Stutler officiating. Burial followed in Ravenswood Cemetery, with graveside military rites provided by the Ravenswood VFW Post 6669.
