    1. [WVJackson] Lewis Garnes, 1773

    3. Hello. Yesterday at my local Duluth, Georgia library I found an entry in Vol. 1 of the Ships Passengers Lists reference set for one "Lewis Garnes", arriving in America in 1773. This may be a relative of my Garnes line who subsequently settled in the Jackson County area. Does anyone out here have an inkling about this person, or any direct information? My great, great grandfather was (John) Lewis Garnes, born Feb. 17, 1868. Family story is that the first male Garnes to reach these shores did so on a "kings pardon", but his name is recorded as Joseph. Lewis may be an uncle, or "Lewis" may have been Joseph's middle name...and may have registered for the trip by that name. Many of the males in my line share the initials "J.L. Garnes." This is a long shot, but it may ring a bell for someone out in Jackson County.
