He was born on December 19, 1940, in Marietta, Ohio, a son of the late Everett Webster Pape and Virginia Lou Barnhart Pape Salser. He retired as an Inspector from Century Aluminum, Ravenswood and he was a member of Local Steelworkers Union 5668. He attended the Racine United Methodist Church. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Pape Salser, Syracuse, Ohio; wife, Patty Roush Pape, Racine, Ohio; sons, John M. Pape, Jr., Racine, Ohio; and Allen L. Pape, Racine, Ohio; daughter: Lisa M. Pape, Westerville, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, Joshua A. Pape, Chelsea A. Pape, Adam L. Pape, and Andrea R. Pape; brother, Jim and Judy Pape, Syracuse, Ohio; mother-in-law, Eileen Roush, Letart Falls, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Sally and Tommy Hill, and Tammy and Jeff Hill, all of Racine, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Services were held on Wednesday, August 22, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, WV, with Reverend Brian Harkness officiating. Burial followed in Letart Falls Cemetery, Letart Falls, Ohio, with military rites provided by Racine American Legion Post 602. Visitation was held on Tuesday, August 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, WV.
