He was born on October 31, 1928, in Holden, WV, a son of the late Edward and Effie White. He graduated from Logan High School, attended West Virginia University, Marshall College and Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, graduating with his DDS in 1954. After serving in the Air Force as a dentist, he practiced in Ravenswood from 1956 until his retirement in 1992. He was an active member of the WV and American Dental Associations, serving as President of the state chapter in 1982. Dr. White was also a past Master, past High Priest and past Commander in the Masonic Lodge, and past President of the Ravenswood Lions Club. He was also a Shriner and a Life Member of the Knight's of York Cross of Honor. Since his retirement in 1992, he lived part time in Tequesta, Florida, and part time in Ravenswood, WV. His life was filled with the love of his wife, Peggy, family and friends and his enjoyment of birds, nature, dancing, swimming and boating. Fred excelled in basketball and football at Logan High School, WVU and Marshall University. He was President of his high sc! hool class, his Sophomore throughout Senior years. He made All-State his Junior and Senior years in both sports and was captain of the All-State teams his senior year. He is to be inducted in September into the Logan Sports Hall of Fame. Surviving is his loving wife, Margaret 'Peggy' Gallo White, Tequesta, Florida; daughters, Meg Eastman, Portland, Oregon, and Mary Kay White, Brevard, NC; granddaughter, Kate Eastman, Portland, Oregon; sisters, Ethel Perry, Jupiter, FLA, Helena Roomy, Charleston, WV, and Dorothy Jean Jimison, Appomatox, VA; 7 nephews; "brothers", George and Clarence Smith; Stepchildren: David McCoy, Richard McCoy and Ann Lovern; Step-grandchildren: Jeff, Chris, David, Kim and Melissa McCoy, Katrina Ramsey, Nancy and Katy Lovern; numerous loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by parents; former wife, Mary K. McCoy White, Ravenswood; brothers, Comfort, Logan, WV, Robert, Oak Ridge, TN, and James, Pt. Pleasant, WV; and nephews Charles Edward Perry, FLA, and David A. White, Ohio. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, August 4, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church, Ravenswood, WV, with Reverend Dr. Wallace Wilson officiating. Visitation was held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood. The family suggests remembrances go to your local Audubon Society or charity of your choice.
