She was born Dec. 16, 1917, in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Jacob Alonzo and Lula May Golden Matlack. Mary retired from First Federal Savings & Loan of Ravenswood after 26 years of service. She joined the First Presbyterian Church on Oct. 31, 1943, and has served as an ordained elder in the church. She and her husband, Mason, prepared the altar flowers and communion for 29 years. She is survived by her nieces, Frances (Dwaine) Steele of Given, W.Va., and Connie (Seldon) Johnson of Coolville, Ohio; nephews, Daniel (Jean) Landfried of Florence, Ky., Robert (Vicki) Matlack of Georgia, Ronald Matlack of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., William Glenn, Jean Ann and Terri Lynne Matlack of Florida, William G. Matlack of Illinois, Charles Ross Matlack of Florida, Jackie Lee Matlack of Illinois and Ronald Carpenter of Michigan; several great-nephews and great-nieces; and a special friend, Mary Reno of Ravenswood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second husband of 43 years, Mason Tell Morgan on Aug. 28, 1997; one son, James Mason Morgan; her first husband, Staff Sgt. Maurice Clayton Mills, killed in World War II; four brothers, Owen, Glenn, Ross and Jack; and two sisters, Blanche Runnion and Marie Landfried. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Services were held 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Presbyterian Church, Ravenswood, with the Rev. Jerry Gustin officiating. Burial was in the Ravenswood Cemetery. Friends visited the family from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
