Les, Thank you for your insights regarding the location of the "Union Districts" as well as the possible location of the "STEWART Cemetery on the road to Foster Chapel". Having taken a good look at the STEWART Cemetery in Mason County, http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvmascem/WVCPA/cemeteryregister/Mason/MasonStewartW.html and judging from the information on the website I can see no indication that this is the cemetery of my focus. That said, however, a more complete listing of burials at this location would be necessary to make a determination as to whether this location held the remains of Sarah BAKER (nee STEWART) who died in 1894. The information re Sarah BAKER's burial comes from the book, The History of Mason County, West Virginia, 1987. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of a STEWART Cemetery near Foster Chapel I would be pleased to know of it. Likewise the book states that the burial of Sarah's husband, Charles BAKER. took place in 1902 "at the BAKER Cemetery on Poplar Creek". Another reference source places the burial for Charles BAKER in the Smith Church Cemetery. For all practical purposes are these places one & the same or perhaps situated very close to one another? Apologies for straying a bit off course with my query. As it developed it related more specifically to Mason County although the BAKER connections to Jackson County were at times present, albeit blurred.
