Owens, 81, of Ravenswood, WV, went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2005, at Ravenswood Village Center. He was born on November 10, 1923, in Grantsville, WV, a son of the late Joshua S. and Nellie G. Wright Owens. Jackson County had been Woodrow's home for 48 years. He was a long-time member of the Second Baptist Church in Ravenswood. He was employed by Kaiser Aluminum and retired after 26 years service. He was an accomplished gunsmith and knife repairman, and he was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he served in the Pacific Theatre. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Owens, Ravenswood; sons, Herbert Wright Owens and wife Joyce, Washington, WV; and James Owens and wife Sharon, Millwood, WV; daughters, Sonja Ritter, Mobile, Ala; Sandra Price and husband Steve, Wilmington, NC; and Patricia Nesselroad and husband Lyle, Sherman, WV; 5 brothers and their families, Joshua Owens, Ravenswood; George Owens and wife Faye, Sunbury, OH; Charles Owens and wife Donna, and Ronald Owens and wife Ellen, both of Parkersburg, WV; and Dennis Cain, Grantsville, WV; 5 sisters, Jean Godfrey and husband Kenneth, Greta Richards and husband Dwayne, and Joyce Roberts and husband Forrest, all of Grantsville; Darlene Roberts and husband Larry, Parkersburg; and Carolyn Preston and husband Gary, Belpre, OH. He left behind a loving family of 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 grandchild. Services were held on Monday, May 23, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church in Ravenswood with Reverends Steve Raines and Richard Parsons officiating. Burial followed in Ravenswood Cemetery. Friends visited Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, on Sunday, May 22, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church Missionary Fund, Ann & Elwood Streets, Ravenswood, WV 26164.
