Gilmore District was merged with Ravenswood many many years ago. There is not a place known as Savoy in Jackson County. There are or were ten places in the USA by that name according to my source on current and historical names. I have tried to think of any town or village that would even remotely sound like Savoy but without success. The library in Ripley does have several books with cemetery listings. Five books are quite old plus they do have some more recent ones. Most but not all cemeteries have been transcribed. Les Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My ggg grandfather, Samuel Bell, died in Savoy, Jackson Co. Have been unable to locate where Savoy is/was. Samuel, his first wife, Annie, his second wife Artemesia, and his third wife, Nancy lived in Jackson Co for about 40 years (from around 1840 to 1880) and had, at least 10 children...several of which remained in Jackson County and had their families there. According to the census information they were located in Ravenswood Dist on Sand Creek, Gilmore Dist on Sand Creek, Union Dist, and Ripley Dist. I'm hoping, on my visit, I'll be able to obtain more information on his family, in addition to what I already have (most of which I have not listed here). Also, maybe you would know, does your library in Ripley had cemetery information as to who is buried where? I am hoping I can find that information also. Thanks for help...Mary Jo Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Jackson County does have five Magistrate or Electoral Districts which might be the nearest thing that you will find to a Township. The Jackson County Courthouse has large maps that show the five districts but are too large to photocopy and place online. The transcribed census for various years at the Jackson County Library has roughly drawn District map in the front of most census years. Other suggestions might come to mind if you would list what you hope to accomplish with the maps. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If there are any living Scarboroughs related to this group, or anyone who knows a Scarborough related to this group, their assistance is much needed in the Scarborough DNA Project. I suspect that my family came from this area but I have not been able to find any records to support my suspicions. This is where DNA testing is invaluable. I can compare my results to those of Scarboroughs who can trace their roots to this family group, and determine if I too belong to the same group. If anyone can help break through this 4 year brick wall, I'd appreciate it. --Joe Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Using his first name they show over 800 such guys you have to sort through. Under his middle name go down to the 13th and 14th listing and the ancestor trail goes back to the mid 1600's. Fields who was born in Russell County, Virginia. My interest was in finding out his full name and I had wished for a response from a blood descendent. My query was responded to by several individuals and I was informed that his middle initial was 'B' and that he was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and that was incorrect. I was also advised; that is how it is reflected on a re-created 'Jackson County' 1870 Census and so for me, that places any other contents on that re-creation as questionable. One must always remember that incorrect data added to a Family Tree will surely infect other Trees regardless of the source. On the National Census Film for Russell County, Virginia in 1850, he is listed as William H. Fields, he did have an Uncle with the name William B. Fields. He came to the now WV Area in the early 1850's. West Virginia became a state in 1860 and their first National Census was taken in 1870 and he is listed on that Census as William and no middle initial and in 1880 also in Jackson County, he is listed only as Wm.
