It took some walking the ATV trails and searching before they found it. It is down the road from the Foster Chapel, then a lane to the right, then up a path and on the left. There was a gasline at the bottom of the hill. No Hoschars there. Mr. Lathey thought there might be some people by that name. (We don't have any Hoschars in our family tree -- at least we haven't found any -- yet.) Perhaps the Hoschars were in the graves marked by field stones. There were a few monuments among the giant cedar trees. For the cemetery find: Here goes -- In a faded monument -- Susan Woodall Zearley born 1852 and died 1893. Beside her Mary 1879-1896 and James 1877-1892. There was a gravesite marked with a rock and a small newer looking monument: John L. Williams 1847-1902. Sadly there were old discarded house roof shingles near the cemetery. Perhaps there will be someone visitin! g Ancestry.com who will find this cemetery find of interest. My sister took photos. By the way, Fletch, THANX for all of your help in looking up the cemeteries. I have another one to ask you about: J. O. Sayre family cemetery -- at the end of nowhere...? Is there an e-mail address to the Jackson County Clerk's office in Ripley, WV? I copied a late birth affidavit for my uncle dated October 1943 abd signed by my great grandmother. In reviewing this record there is a hand written note on the bottom of it to record my grandfather's record in the delayed books. This record I did not copy nor do know if this was ever recorded. The hand written note shows State Dept of Health record #54667, baptismal record, voters registration and mother's affidavit as records used to record the delayed birth record of my grandfather. Is there a place where I can call to get copies of these records, for a fee of course, from the courthouse? Thanks for your help. It's about 10 miles southwest of Ripley due south of Evans and Mt. Moriah. Appears to be at the south end of Parchment Valley. There is a cemetery on the immediate south side of the church. The site map shows what probably is a pipeline about a mile west of the church which runs NE to SW. Then went to the site WV CEMETERY PRESERVATION. Under its Jackson county listings it has Pleasant Hill with a burial inventory. Also hit the Jackson Co. gen page subsite Jackson Co. Pioneers....surname Hoschar. They list 58 Hoschars some of which are buried at Foster Chapel . I realize it may not be a Hoschar you're looking for but thought I'd check it anyway. Let me know if you can't find these sites. Fellow genealogists and anyone concerned with preserving our sacred cemeteries, The History Channel and Time Warner are sponsoring a 'Save Our History' grant award for which anyone can go online and cast their vote. Voting ends THIS FRIDAY April 27th, so time is short. We were fortunate that our restoration project was chosen as a finalist. The JCOGS is the only genealogy society or cemetery project to be chosen as one of the five finalists, so I truly hope that you will go to the Time Warner website and cast your vote for the James Cemetery project. If awarded this grant, we will use 100% of the grant to begin installing an antique-style aluminum alloy fence around the perimeter in order to help halt further desecration of this sacred and historic burial ground. You can read more about our James Cemetery project at the Time Warner 'Save Our History' voting website. Please unite with us as a group of genealogists concerned about the ever-increasing destruction of our cemeteries by VOTING for us at the website below. And note also that ANYONE with Internet access can VOTE so please forward this email to your genealogy circle of friends and ask THEM to vote too! Betty, Could there be a KESSEL/CASSEL (or anything close) with a first name other than George, in the book of death records? Thanks for looking. I can accept that the word is Sandy but there are two or three things that still do not make sense if it is worded as you say. First, on Sandy usually referred to Sandy Creek or Little Sandy Creek. In a place name they should appear earlier in the list. Sandy Creek empties into the Ohio River at Ravenswood. The head waters come from Straight Fork, Crooked Fork, Copper Fork and Trace Fork plus some smaller streams. The mouth of Little Sandy is at Sherman, about four miles north of Ravenswood. Some of its headwaters come from near the Pond Creek area. The Pond Creek or Little Pond Creek mouth is at the north end of the county above Belleville. It is fed from streams in northern Jackson County and southern Wood County. i do not think that Sandy and Pond Creek should ever appear in the same place description. As written I would take it that he died in the town of Ravenswood. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. A couple of years ago I got an opportunity to make a quick pass through Jackson. I got a little research done but not what was needed to be done. Anyway, I have a copy of the death register in Jackson County for 1879. On this page it shows places of death in Ravenswood, Pond Creek, Ohio River, Savoy etc. I just got the death register back out to look at it and I would swear it says Savoy BUT now that I have corresponded with you, and I look at it again, it may say Sandy. The "d" definitely looks like an "o" but as with everyone's writing you have to get use to their style. Now if it does say Sandy...that makes MUCH more sense to me. I am sorry for the confusion BUT in the process I may have cleared something up in my research. Does Sandy make more sense to you?
