Rootsweb and LDS have some info on him under that name. Seems his first wife lived until 1955 (ROOTSWEB). I can't seem to get into the state death certificates tonight to look for Adorem, Virginia or Eliva for a burial clue. My wife has been gone to visit her Dad in FL so I've been mystery cruisin' on the gen net. Been studying other cems near Milhoan looking at the topography for cems on a cleared promontory. As you noted there's a commonality to that. Some cems that fit that description within a 6 mile or so radius of Milhoan are: Swain, Boso, Pond Creek Church, Logston, Vanhorne, Rawson, and Jordan. Hope you don't mind if I keep trying to find that one little clue. Regards, Fletch Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ploverrover Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.westvirginia.counties.jackson/6598.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: WVCPA lists a Willowdale cem. It is in extreme northern Jackson Co. on Little Pond Creek Road about 4 miles south of the Wood Co. line. There used to be a tiny hamlet called Willow Grove on the Ohio River at a spot which is now on the back side of the former Kaiser Aluminum fab plant. Several nice old farmhouses were moved to various places when the plant was built. One old two story brick house was still there abandoned as late as 1979 when I left the area. I was told an old gentleman named Mr. King had owned it earlier. I don't believe there was a cemetery there. Now for Williamson Cem......I have a possible theory on this. There were Williamsons from Murraysville in northwestern JCK. On the maps of that area a cemetery is shown at Murraysville right along a great bend in the river where the old Flesher steamboat building yard was located in the late 19th century. The map shows no name for this cem. All other cems. are listed as to their names in that ! end of the county with none of those being called Williamson. Just a theory, mind you. Hopefully, a knowledgable browser may confirm or deny. Regards, Fletch Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. On top of a hill you'll see the Milhoan Ridge road sign on the east side of the highway. Church is a few hundred yds. from the highway. About 2 mies to the southeast from that church over the backroads you'll find Ebenezer. Another 2 miles on to the southeast you'll hit Willowdale. If you have a map with geographic coordinates.... Milhoan is 39.065N, 81.758 W. Ebenezer is 39.050 N., 81.731 W.,, Willowdale is 39.028 N., 81.689 W. You can find useable maps at the sites TERRASERVER and/or TOPOZONE. I'm pretty sure these cemeteries are small. Shouldn't take you long to search them. If you go to Yahoo and punch it in as Mudsock, Wv you'll find a few items. There's also a couple of towns in Ohio by the same name. Also tells how the name came about. It is now Mt. Alto. I remember all the Mt. Alto kids in high school called it Mudsock. If you go to ROOTSWEB and punch in Homer Lloyd you'll get 70 guys listed. See 2nd page of those names. That site seems to confirm he descended from Thomas Lloyd and Anna Yardley. Found William Lloyd 1816- 1905 buried in Hopewell Baptist Cemetery half a mile south of Mt. Alto nay Mudsock on rt. 87/1. Sorry if all this is old news but it was enjoyable looking it up. I believe we may have looked for these gentlemen about three years ago. The funeral home submitted the obituary for posting on the Jackson County Message Board. They provide what information that they can based on what the family provides them. It is not very likely that the funeral home are even aware of the Franklin family. The owners of the funeral home are much younger than I am. I have known Glenn or Jack Waggoner since I was a small boy but I was not aware or did not know any Franklin family here is Jackson County. Jack was married to Bernice Shockey who was a first cousin to my father. Bernice and my mother talked to each other on the telephone almost every day for many years. Their daughter, Donna, still lives in the area and I will check with her the next time that I see her to see if she knew any of the other Franklins besides her grandmother. I have been told that Bernice's health went quickly after Jack's death and it is not possible to learn any thing by talking to her. K. here goes. Went to my old friend TOPOZONE. Found a cemetery listed as "Sayre". It did not call it J. O. Sayre, just plain Sayre. Take RT. 87 southwest out of Evans for 1.2 miles, on the right there should be a holler, ( Yep holler, I'm a Jackson county boy,) on the right side of the road which leads to the northwest. About three sixteenths of a mile up the holler, the cemetery should be up the hill on the right. The map does not indicate a road or lane into it. People should check out this great map site. It lists very old churches and schools which no longer are standing and seems to have little known or lost cemeteries. Hope this was the one you needed. Given the Sayre name , I'm surprised it wasn't a little closer to Cottageville or Mudsock. In Wisconsin, would like to be in W. Va.
