Armor Ray Sayre 21 June 1908- 28 July 1996 born at Evans, died in Jackson Co. Wife was Verda Marie Casto 1903-1982. They were married Akron, Ohio 12 Aug 1925. Two children, both still living according to the data. The Sayres are buried together in Longview Cemetery Rt 87 west of Evans. That much was straightforward----It looks to be possible J. O. Sayre was his father and his Mom was a second wife with Armor possibly having a much older half brother Orville? The Herdman I knew as a small child was "Curly" Herdman. He was a fine singer, played the guitar did some traveling as an entertainer appear on stage at York, Penn. where I saw him in the late 40's. His folks lived on Cow Run also. My mother was born on Cow Run, I was born in Cottageville, and now live in Texas. I'm trying to do the Flower's line as my 3rd G. Grandmother was Dianna (Flowers) Lewis that married William Lewis (of (the Gen. Andrew Lewis line) Diana's mother was Mary Hall, that married Thomas flowers. (c. 1821?) Mary (Hall)Flowers was the daughter of Joseph Hall that came to Warth's Bottom, Jackson Co. VA. c. 1802 now WV. Believe he was from England. I wish I could remember how I was related to "Curly" Herdman think I was like a 3rd cousin,?? but I have forgotten what my dad told me, Dad was born Evans. I guess, to many years have slipped away for meto recall a lot. Just wonder what else you might know about the Flower family. Thanks .............ms. grace Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi The "Curly Herdman" you are speaking of was probably the son of Wall and Mirla Miller Herdman. His given name may have been Troy. I know that he and one of his brother-in-laws played music all over the country. I think they may have played on the radio station WWVA (Wheeling, WVA) and WNAR in Landsdale, PA. This is how my sister described the directions to the grave site: On a tall hill in Jackson County -- go down the Beech Grove road -- pass the David Saye Cemetery on the right and pass the Hoschar farm and barn -- immediately up on the tall hill lies Benjamin Anderson, age 50, and son Edward age 20. Records indicate Benjamin died June 24, 1901 and Edward died Jan. 30, 1897. He was the son of Melinda and Benjamin. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. When I was in Ripley last May, I tried to find the Mount Calvary Cemetery. I finally figured out which hill it's on, but the only road I saw going up the hill had a chain across it. That road is on the end of the hill closest to Cedar Lakes Rec Center. Looking at a topo map, it looks like there is also a road up from the north end of the hill. It's been over 30 years since I was up there, but I seem to remember the road had at least one bad curve in it. Does anyone know who to contact to get permission to go up and which road actually goes to the cemetery? My great grandparents are up there and I'd like to be able to get to their graves. Thanks, Betty

I would love to exchange info and photos with you. I believe that their father was Lawrence Lane,b. abt 1784 in Del....but we have not be able to document that fact. Evidence is very strong that this is true....but it is still circumstantial. There is some evidence that our family goes back to the William Lane-Martha Carr family of Westmoreland Co., Virginia in the early 1700's. My e-mail is ClassyGram@neo.rr.com. My gr-gr grandfather was Wilkinson Davidson Williamson. I am always interested in knowing where the Williamson's lived and are buried, etc. I found my Wilkinson Davidson Williamson and a whole line of monuments of the Williamson's in the Bicknel Cemetery, across the Ohio River from Ravenswood area. There were several children in the family who settled in this area. So nice of you to look this up. I am planning to make a trip up that way. Sincerely, B. I heard Brother Sayre preach a number of times while visiting back home with my grandparents, Wayne and Gladys Barnhart of Sandyville. I always enjoyed his sermons and came away blessed. Wonderful to see his name mentioned on here, brings back lots of wonderful and fond memories.
