    1. [WVJACKSO] Benj Anderson & Malinda Howell descendants
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Kalkowski Surnames: Anderson, howell, sayre, king, donohue, donohew Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.westvirginia.counties.jackson/6605/mb.ashx Message Board Post: As best as I have right now, here are the descendants of Benjamin ANDERSON (the one who was shot) and Malinda HOWELL. Each person is numbered and hopefully you can navigate through this well enough. If anyone sees mistakes, please let me know. I probably won't be able to work on this again in the next several days, so just thought I would share it now before I forget. I hope it doesn't lose its format - it'll be really difficult to read if it does! OK, it does look like it might lose the format. If it does, I'll repost it as an attachment on the Message Board. Hopefully something will work here... Laura ========= First Generation -------------------------------------------------- 1. Benjamin ANDERSON, 2C4R. Born in Nov 1850 in Jackson Co., VA. 3. Les, Thank you for your insights regarding the location of the "Union Districts" as well as the possible location of the "STEWART Cemetery on the road to Foster Chapel". Having taken a good look at the STEWART Cemetery in Mason County, http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvmascem/WVCPA/cemeteryregister/Mason/MasonStewartW.html and judging from the information on the website I can see no indication that this is the cemetery of my focus. That said, however, a more complete listing of burials at this location would be necessary to make a determination as to whether this location held the remains of Sarah BAKER (nee STEWART) who died in 1894. The information re Sarah BAKER's burial comes from the book, The History of Mason County, West Virginia, 1987. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of a STEWART Cemetery near Foster Chapel I would be pleased to know of it. Likewise the book states that the burial of Sarah's husband, Charles BAKER. took place in 1902 "at the BAKER Cemetery on Poplar Creek". Another reference source places the burial for Charles BAKER in the Smith Church Cemetery. For all practical purposes are these places one & the same or perhaps situated very close to one another? Apologies for straying a bit off course with my query. As it developed it related more specifically to Mason County although the BAKER connections to Jackson County were at times present, albeit blurred. Bette >> My ancestor was buried in the Smith Church Cemetery near Poplar Creek >> in 1902. >>I would assume Mason County. > > The only Poplar Creek that my maps show in WV is in Nicholas County. > > >>My BAKER ancestor married in 1833 in Ripley, Jackson Co. but Jackson Co. >>did >>not come into existence until 1831 so herein lies my confusion as to which >>"Union District" was meant by the reference. > > With the two Unions Districts located so closely together, the > confusion is understandable. 3. Hi Betty, Thank you for the map of the Jackson Co. districts. I noted that there is/was a "Union District" in both Mason Co & Jackson Counties, VA(WV). My BAKER ancestor was purported to have come to the Union District VA(WV) before 1840 (he was born in 1806). I had always assumed that what was meant by the Union District was the district located in Mason County. However, since Jackson Co came into existence in 1831 I am now rethinking this assumption and wondering if perhaps it would be more likely correct to assume Union District, Jackson County for the time period in question. Any thoughts on this matter would be welcomed. Yea, been working real hard. I "Ain't No Spring Chicken" and I have to climb all of these hills while I still can. Found the cemetery yesterday where Albert and Lelia Oliver Knapp are buried. Looked for that for a coon's age. The directions were wrong for the Ward-Aten cemetery in the Mason County books. Just one thing wrong. The name of the road. Should have been Tomblinson -- not Gill. I believe the roads all connect. Can't get into Tomblinson from Letart now. Only Rt. 2. Just in case someone reads this before Memorial Day -- and has to backtrack. You all take care. Your help was so appreciated on the Jack Sayre info. Wish I could connect up with Jack's family or any of J. O. Sayre's clan. My grandmother had a Sayre book ready to publish when she died in 1967. Mary would be my GGG Grandmother. Daughter Nancy 1824-1862/1870, m Peter Herdman. Nancy is my GG Grandmother. The son of Thomas and Mary was Benjamin 1811-1880, who m Catherine Hughes, and are my GG Grandparents. Their d was Dianna, my G GrandAunt, who m John Roseberry. So, if I got the right Nancy and Dianna, Nancy would be the Aunt of Dianna. I don't find a Wm. Lewis, but that doesn't mean anything, as have very little Lewis in what's available to me. Now, since you are related to me, could you please respond to my email address? pro4art@yahoo.com I have an email list of 30 people, most related to you, who can help with your research. When I hear from you, will send you a new site that you can spend a few hours looking at. It's all RT87, Jackson and Mason Cos, WV. At first would like to give you some more info on myself, and in return info on you. BTW, the last residence I have for my Father, Alva (Shorty) Hughes, when he was very young, was in Cottageville, abt 1928. Don't be shy, or worried about spam/etc. I'm fairly serious about this goofy game we play, and have abt 570 people in my own tree, and access to over 4,000 at our site.
