They raised a girl by the name of Sadie Mae Salverine. She was my grandmother, and later married Harley Roscoe Nutter. They had 7 children, and Grandpas father was Avery Nutter. The tale goes that my grandmother was placed with the Stanakers to raise by her father when he came from Michigan to work in the oil fields. I do not know if they had any children of their own or not. Any information would be very much appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Edward is black, born about 1889 in South Carolina, and he is a coal loader, which fits with the coal mine story. Minnie was born about 1899 in South Carolina, and they have been married 14 years (since 1916). Try your query on the Tazewell board. In 1920, Ed and Minnie are living in Walnut Grove Township, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. They were both farmers. This would be a good county to search for their marriage record. As late as 1957 it was a minimum of a 12 hour drive from Ripley in Jackson County West Virginia to Pocahontas Virginia. This was a extremely hard drive prior to the completion of the West Virginia Turnpike and a major portion of I-77. This statement aside, I do not recognize the names of those you list. However my wife's grandfather also died working at the Pocahontas Mine. His name was Henry Harrison Newman and he died 20 March 1924 at the age of 28 years. He is buried on the mountain at Berwind in McDowell County. WV but there is a large cemetery on the side of the mountain at Pocahontas of many miners who died working the Pocahonta mine.
