Posted on: Jackson County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Jackson/1703 Surname: ------------------------- Dear Sir, I saw your Jackson County query regarding a man in the 11th WV Infantry. First of all, do you live anywhere near Jackson Co, WV? If you do, my Sons of Union Veterans camp would love to have you speak on the 11th. Many Meigs County Ohio boys fought in W.Va. units as the Ohio units were full. Also, I think you may be wrong about Rutherford B. Hayes being a Union general. He was a much lower commissioned officer in the 23th Ohio Volunteers. I know he was in this capacity when he fought in July, 1863, at the Battle of Buffington Island. You could contact the Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont, Ohio, to verify this. As a fellow Civil War enthusiast, let me also invite you to join the Sons of Union VEterans of the Civil War, which was formed in 1881 as a male auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), the largest Union veterans' organization after the Civil War. With the help of WWII general, Douglas McArthur, the S.U.V. is Congressionally chartered. You can join on a direct Union ancestor or a blood-related uncle who fought for the Union. I am currently working to form a new camp in Spencer, Roane Co., WV. My camp is in Middleport, Ohio, right on the OHio River across from Mason County, WV. Keith Ashley

Posted on: Jackson County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Jackson/1697 Surname: Slaughter, Brown, Lewis, Voirs, Green ------------------------- Okey, Before the Morgan hanging, there was the hanging of Charles Green. In the transcript of the Morgan story it is mentioned that Amos slaughter, Joe Brown, Will Lewis and Albert Voirs were also hing in Jackson Co. Maybe some of the better informed Jackson co. folks can enlighten us about all of these hangings/lynchings. I'm beginning to think that our Jackson Co. ancestors were a little high-strunk as Grandma used to say. By the way, I hated it about Wayne Stone, I had just bumped into him about a month before he passed on. Went to school with him and Linda. Don
Posted on: Jackson County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Jackson/1696 Surname: DUFF, RYAN ------------------------- Duff, Robert M. 1861 - 1887 (son of George H. and Keziah (Cunningham) Duff. Hanged by a lynch mob on the night of 13-14 Oct 1887 for the murder of Rev. Thomas P. Ryan, Sr. Another man, Chester Coon, had his throat cut by the lynch mob for the murder of Rev. Thomas P. Ryan, Sr.) This bit of information is to be found on the Duff Cemetery listing in the Jackson County Cemetery Pages. I would like to know the details of this case. I know that there was only one legal hanging in Jackson County. Were there any more lynchings besides the Duff Lynching? Posted on: Jackson County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Jackson/1685 Surname: ------------------------- Sorry I'm not the person who was researching Merical in Jackson Co. Library. I didn't get the chance to visit there this summer. Mabel Clare Merical was married to Cleophas Deem Landfried around 1828, don't have the exact date. Mabel is the daughter of Okey J. Cunningham and Martha Belle Merical. I was wondering if they had a daughter named Hazel. She was murdered by her husband Guy Holcomb in Columbus Ohio. Sept 1941 I haven't looked at the obit site for Jackson Co lately, do you happen to know when the obit was listed ? Thanks Sal
Posted on: Jackson County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Jackson/1683 Surname: GREER ------------------------- I am researching my ancestry. My grandfather was JOHN WESLEY GREER, his father was WALTER GREER, married to MILLIE A. GREER. Walter was born between 1800 and 1820, so was his wife. They had M.M.(female) born in TN (about 1836) D.H. and J.D. were born in Van Zandt County, Texas in 1949, then Sarah J. and John Wesley in Wood County, Texas. I am trying to determine where J.W. and Walter fit in with the Greer's various and plentiful line. Walter came from what I thought was Overton County, but am also checking our Jackson County, which I understand was in W.V. in the early 1800's. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Could someone please check the 1870 & 1880 Census for the Harman Barnhart residence? Thank you in advance. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

She married Tobias Boudinot in Point Pleasent in 1826. She died about 1839 in Ohio. There are a lot of Lloyds in Jackson Co. and I think my Richmond must belong to one of these families. I hope one of you Lloyds has her on your tree. Audrey
Posted on: Jackson County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Jackson/1681 Surname: Landfried ------------------------- Are you the individuals I spoke with earlier this year in the Library in Ripley, Jackson County, West Virginia, who were researching the name Merical? I had the 1000+ obituaries I was indexing. I did find a Merical as a survior in one of them-did you find this in the obits posted at the Jackson county web site? Can you tell me which Landfried you mean? and the date of marriage? It's not my immediate family but the name seems familiar.
Hi Listers, I'm trying to find the children of Jacob Beath WOLFE, and Sarah Boswell. Jacob WOLFE is great granduncle. Would appreciate any information on this. Thanks for your consideration. Richard Szasz
